Well when you buy a used camaro and the PO forgot to put the cover in you can't just leave a hole there.

I would cover the hole with scotch tape.

LOL thanks I needed that laugh. Anyone planning to steal a car by winching it on a flatbed will be happy to save the 15 seconds I guess. It's really not hard to hook the car underneath if desired.

And that's a really slow and very visible way to steal a car. Would be easier to just use a minuteman and never get out of the truck.

You can't get out of the car on track to do that. What will happen instead is the flat tow rig will run a strap through whatever else they can easily access and pull it that way. That might be through the side windows pulling on the a pillars, wheels if they want to lift instead or any other viable hole they can find in the car. If it's not on before you go on track you are doing it wrong.

People who run them on pure street cars are doing it for the looks. I don't get that but whatever. My track cars all have them installed so I don't forget to reinstall them at every event. It's safer to just leave them on than to potentially forget them and have a situation where potentially thousands of damage is added to an incident because they had no tow hook to strap to. They aren't responsible for that damage and they don't care if they damage it. Their goal is to clear the track as fast as possible not prevent further damage because someone was too dumb to not install a tow hook/eyelet/strap/etc.

I don't run a towhook on my car but I'm shocked at this even being a topic. Why are people concerned with what another man/woman does to their Camaro? It's still a Camaro at the end of the day.

THIS!!!

As a pilot, the above statement is more true of explaining what is basically reverse aerodynamics.

Maybe if you track it frequently, but I've done lots of track days over the years and have never needed one, including some off track excursions

Not a fan.

Having said that it doesn’t really vex me either. I’m cool being me, you guys just be you so we can move onto some more Camaro-esque topics!

I stand by my comment that I'd rather see a tow hook instead of a hole in the crash bar.

Yeah, and god forbid someone puts a performance oriented part on their performance car. This has to be the most "Okay Boomer" thread I have ever seen.

My Mazda CX5 has a place for a tow hook. Maybe I should get a red one and stick it on there. Let's be honest, with the exception of a few, most people put it there for aesthetic reasons only. NOTHING else. Period. You either like the look or you don't. I don't like it so I won't put one on. Simple. If others like it...who the hell cares! I've never been harmed by a car with a tow hook hanging off the front. It has ZERO effect on my life. I can't believe this thread has gone on for 7 pages! WOW!!!

Because race car!

Honestly I push my car. Do some 1/4 mile runs and even some pulls in Mexico. If I ever need it I have it. If you prefer not to have it don’t put it. If your car is never pushed or you don’t have the blls to push it you probably shouldn’t be talking.

I don't sport a tow hook but I put a brush guard on and ran my exhaust vertical up and out the trunk.
