Just in case anyone is curious, here's a popular outfit that runs track-days. I don't know if anyone is really fascinated having a tow hook in view. But it is cheap insurance just in case you need a tow whether at the track or not. 5th Gen cars mostly don't have the option of removal. A lot of us permanently bolted ours on which required removing the front clip to install. It can also be easily painted black if you aren't going to the track for a while.
Good luck.

My state requires a front license plate.

I don't like the looks of the Camaro with the factory plate holder.

So I got a ZL1Addons front plate holder and tow hook.

I modified the grille take out so I could leave the tow bar in at all times. I have a bolt in it most of the time, painted black. You have to look for it to notice it.

I can run the license plate or the tow clevis or the black bolt. I usually run the bolt, if stopped by the police, I might be able to avoid a ticket if I can put the license plate on in a couple of minutes, claiming I just forgot to install it after the last show.

I don't daily drive my car, but haven't been stopped yet.

I put one on because I like the way it looks /shrug

I also do a lot of track stuff, so it's functional as well.

I installed a GoPro on my tow hook to make it more obvious to those of you that don't like it

To get towed back to the pits after breaking at the drag strip. Came in handy at the LS Fest when I broke the drive shaft. Also I can winch my car on the trailer if needed, we pushed it last time not again.

Exactly. Leave it on or not, I don't care. But stating you leave it on because it makes towing on the track easier only applies when you're on the track. Why leave it on when you're driving around town?

I think the answer for some is they just don't want to take the time to take it off, which makes sense to me. For other I think it similar to the reason some Charger/Challenger owners leave those ugly yellow strips on their splitters. They think it looks cool. Or they might want everyone to know that they track their car.

Who cares really. Why is this even a topic? Are others really that bothered by what other people do or don't do. Seems super trivial to me.

Those that spend that much time in others business tend to have deeper issues of their own to sort thru or are super bored in their own lives. Get a hobby man.

It doesn't bother me. I'm just responding with my thoughts on why people do it, which is what the OP asked. I don't find it appealing and wouldn't do it myself, but if others want to, why not. I did think this was pretty stupid:

I wasn't directing it specifically at you, just a general statement. I shouldn't have used the quote reply.

How about all those pick-up trucks that just show off their chrome ball tow hitches and receivers when they aren't being used? What's up with that?...lol

People do what they do. Who knows why. Like the guy in the 2020 RS that wanted to race me yesterday. What’s up with that?
