You just told my story. Was about to get into a Mustang Convertible when I saw a Camaro and got into that. Got the itch for a 5th or 6th gen ever since. And the other post about you don't sell the steak you sell the sizzle is absolutely correct.

(Yes, I know my IROC is not a 5th nor a 6th gen. I'm here as I am thinking about a newer convertible and I know from experience most of the Camaro forum members are helpful and understanding.... right?!?) |

I disagree because the compromised caused by its styling are cited in every review the car has had. Chevy could have gone with the original clay model and made it look like a 2 door SS (Holden)

The Camaro has big ass A pillars. The reason is they are stuffed with Airbags and other goodies, also serves as part of the built in roll cage. You can roll this car multiple time with no roof collapse with an overall very good crash test rating. Thats the trade off. Most of the people who b!tch about visibility are use to driving Mini Vans.

As a long time muscle car guy and Camaro owner....frankly....I wasn't even looking at the Camaro. As a kid in the late 70s/80's and an Camaro owner since the 90's, I took GM killing the Camaro for '03 pretty hard. It never really came back on my radar while looking. When I sold my 89 Iroc for a pretty big chunk, I didn't consider the Camaro, and actually had pretty much settled on a Mustang S550. I knew the Camaro numbers were good on paper, but ya never see 'em out, GM doesn't advertise, and aside from a rare owner review talking about how great they are, all the consumer reviews dog the car for it's lack of practicality. But still....can't drop that kind of money without at least saying I drove one. Well I did, and wow! I was sold! Literally. ....and to this day, my longtime Chevy/GM buddies are still surprised when they hear I bought one. Like they don't actually consider it anymore than I did before I bought one. Then I let 'em drive it and they're blown away! They love it too!!!
It doesn't get mentioned a lot, but I think GM killing the Camaro at the end of 02 really hurt more than can be measured. It hurt the brand, and name recognition. Then the consumer reviews coupled with the lack of advertising....I mean it's really no surprise. It's pricey too....and no way I'd DD the car. Sure, some disagree, but obviously "most" people don't want to. |

That is probably the biggest problem. Yeah a lot of the enthusiast guys that can have it as a toy or weekend car or are single or just married can get away with it. Family guy like me it's a much tougher sell, especially when the cars its most often compared to Mustang and Challenger offer better practicality. As #3 points out alot, they made the best Camaro ever but a terrible coupe. Take away the badges/powertrains driving dynamics and jsut look at as a coupe compared to the others. We all know coupes sacrifice a lot in terms of practicality. The Camaro sacrifices the most out of the 3. BUT some people can look past it because of the driving dynamics. Others can't. |

I wouldn't want to be DD'ing any other car than my SS. The car is just to much fun to let sit and look at. |

Awesome. ...and some people only use 'em as dedicated track cars. Lots of different wants, needs, and ways to love a Camaro. But if it doesn't appeal to the masses, they don't sell, and we ALL lose. |

I DD my 1LE, but it's true that some wouldn't and the car has a limited audience. But I just believe there's a lot more of that limited audience Chevy could have reached if they had done better marketing.

But hey I'm in a car I love, and at this point in life I can afford it sooooo.......I mean whatever I guess. I'm no longer brand loyal. GM beat it out of me. Just so happens that for a FUN car to drive a couple times a week, the product they offer happens to fit the bill. |

My Camaro is the perfect personal commuter because all I need to haul is a 30" roller bag for travel. My wife's CUV is used for all our practical needs. If I was single, I think it would be difficult to have the Camaro as my only car because it is limited compared to the gen3 or gen4 with the hatch. Side note - I owned a lot of gen2's when I was in my teens and 20s. Their trunk, and opening, was smaller then gen6. GM sold more than 250,000 a year at the peak. The population was young and pony cars were hot.

It’s the product. Very simple.

Agreed, the SS is my only car. I commute through Houston rush hour traffic every day. However, I'm sure I pay much more attention to what's going on around me than the average person, so there is that.
