hood insert

so i think i found a car. but it doesn't have a carbon hood insert, just black like the car. Does it just mean they didn't want carbon fiber or does it mean something else? 2019

Just means that the car doesn't have that option. It's easy to add. I did it on my car and sold the black part.

The exposed carbon fiber hood insert was a $600.00 option that had to be ordered with the car!

FYI your black insert IS carbon fiber, its just painted. The $600 fee is for the super expensive clearcoat to leave the CF exposed and not have it yellow with the UV.

What everyone else said, just a dealer option that they didn't dish out $600 for.

FYI, I’ve had the ECF hood insert on order with my dealer since taking delivery of the car on Halloween. Still waiting on it. The GM strike has backed up many of these parts.

Also, don’t forget there are three parts to make the swap complete:
-The hood insert itself (84243751)
-The two (x2) emblems that are affixed to the hood (84046847).

All in, it’s just under $2k before tax.

May be an idea....

if done correctly, maybe with a little more cowl, I think it'd look nice.

I'd be interested in it. then I could sell my stock cf one and maybe recoup some of the money for the new one.

someone needs to get on this

I was understanding that this was basically just a stock piece.

Yep not higher but much cheaper option if you want CF than the OEM piece.

Even the black painted insert IS carbon fiber. So, other than appearance, there isn't any weight savings.

Strip the paint off of it and re clear coat. They are all carbon inserts. Some are just painted.

I heard that the ones selected to be clear coated had fewer flaws in them than the ones that were painted. I didn't look to confirm the statement, so it is subject to being incorrect.
