I’m not recommending a ZL1! Read my earlier replies please! I was replying to what Fraxum said about convincing ourselves if we made the right decision on the Camaro we bought. I have owned a 2016 2SS before the ZL1.

OP's decision needs to be based on how much he needs or how badly he wants the things that turn a 1SS into a 2SS, and even though he seems to be checking in from time to time he's staying out of the controversy. There are those who want 'more' feature content just to have more, just as there are some who don't want what they know they're not going to use (even if it was free). And some who will take more content, but only to get something they would not be able to get otherwise. There is no "one size fits all" answer here. Norm

I'm not bothering reading all of this thread, but here's how I see it. You can either...
A) Buy up front. or.. B) Spend years wishing you did and just keep buying the parts to upgrade it yourself. Is everything useful? No. The heated steering wheel is very nice in the winter. Dual climate control keeps the wife happy on her side, the HUD is cool, and keeps you from having to look down so much at the cluster. Personally, I'd always look for one a year old and get it for the same price as new with all options.

Sometimes you don’t realize the utility of an option until you have the opportunity to use it. When I bought my SS 1LE, the HUD meant nothing to me. Now that I’ve used it for a while I doubt I will buy a car that doesn’t have it.

I believe it but the opposite is true for me. I went several months before I realized I had accidentally turned the HUD off.

I had 9 1st gen Camaros..... one was a 69 SS with Air, power windows, locks and power convertible top.....about as close to a 2SS you could get back then.... it was my favorite of them all.
The added weight likely made it slower but it was way cool to drop the top and lower the windows at a red light on the first spring day it hit 60 degrees.... So I like little luxuries.... But.... I can’t get over the irony of summer only tires and a heated steering wheel on my 2SS |

If mine was a daily driver, I absolutely would have opted for the 2SS. As a play car, I don’t even turn the radio on when I’m driving it and would rather listen to the engine/exhaust and certainly don’t need heated/cooled seats. Zoned climate control seems like a joke in a small car and I rarely have a passenger. I also prefer cloth seats for auto-x and road racing. I had HUD In my C5 Z06 and didn’t really like it. Assuming it’s much better now, that would be a cool feature.

I have a 1SS and really my only complaint is the cloth but probably because my old 4th gen had leather, which is why I’ll likely add 1LE Recaro’s. Beyond that I think the 1SS is terrific.

If used were to include the 2019, don't forget about the rear view camera on the 2SS. I've read some aren't keen of it but after a few days, I am happy I have it.
....and don't hijack the thread with 2019 hate

I just got my 2017 2SS yesterday. When I went to look at at 2018 1SS that was for sale and showing at a local lot, I found out it was not actually at that lot, but at their other lot across town and they are closed on Sundays. They said they would bring it over the next day and let me take a brand new 1SS out for a few hours. The next day they called to say the car had sold. I found a 2SS for sale and realized I really like the 2SS features. It will be my daily driver.

Personally, I know what I like. So a 2SS was the only option for me. Never even considered a 1SS. Again, for me I wanted leather, HUD, sunroof, magride, NAV, bigger screen (radio) and heated/cooled seats. There were other options I preferred which I did get but that was mostly what I was looking for. In the end the OP needs to figure out what options they want. If you can afford it, get the options you want.
