C8 puts more separation between Camaro & Corvette. Not everyone is gonna want a mid-engine Corvette. GM advertises $60k for the C8 but that’s like saying the Camaro is $30,000. I guarantee most C8’s will be pushing between $65,000 and $70,000 if not more.

having owned two camaros and a C7, I can’t see anybody migrating from a C8 to a Camaro. The only situation may be like me, that got tired of sitting so low in a C7.

DCT is definitely not automatic in the sense of the hydro-pneumatic planetary transmissions we've gotten used to since the mid 1950's, but it is "automatic" in that it decides when to shift so that the driver doesn't have to. I'd still prefer to say it has an automated transmission, since there is already a pretty firm expectation of what is an automatic. That does pretty much make it po-tay-to / po-tah-to.
Lol now that’s over simplification.

As CVTs aka snowmobile transmissions do no “gear changes” but rather ratio changes I sure wouldn’t classify it that way.

I personally take credit for killing GMs original CVT. I had a Saturn VUE that had serious cold weather issues. They took it in the Warren shop, then it went to MPG then to the plant. I never saw the vehicle again and he CVT died shortly thereafter.

I was having a conversation about this just this past Friday. Had lunch with some other ex-GM product planner types and one of them asked "What ever happened to <name of CVT Chief Engineer>. I reminded them of the Saturn Vues in Canada that could not make it up an inclined driveway in snow. Wasn't long after that that the person in question quietly disappeared from the org chart. If I run into him should I tell him how to contact you?

The C8 when Chevrolet finally reveal it was mind blowing, then announcing the price of $60,000 had everyone in the audience going nuts. (But) that is just for the base model. And order to get the Z51 package your looking at $70, to $75,000 just for starters. With other options on top your now pushing $90,000 and some have there's with every option available at a max price of $108,000. Chevrolet has came right out and said that prices will definitely increase a lot more for the 2021 Corvette because they are definitely losing money on a 2020 Corvette. Rumors are that get the 2020 now because the base price of the 2021 will start out out at $70,000.

I won't tell you what our price is but I can tell you, you can not buy one for anything close to $60k.

We've already been offered 5 figures for our spot. Honestly I think that's kind of premature until we see what quality comes out of this first run. GM does not have a wonderful track record there.

I'd take that with a grain of salt, GM will charge what the market will bare, and if the market say 4 years from now is 60,000g for the base then either GM will charge that or they won't sell a base Vette. Maybe they don't want too, I don't know everything that has ever gone on at GM, but I don't remember the last time an base model anything went up 15 percent year on year. Sorry the world does not stop, production cost fall, economies of scale take over, etc.
pr
Now if GM can sell-out year on year, then I agree, whatever the market will bare, 70,000 for base, that still fine with me (and lots of other people).

There are dealers that are selling for sticker price and there are a few people that HAVE ordered bare bones cars for around 60K. So, it's not THAT difficult.

I put a deposit down on a C8 hardtop convertible. I like Corvettes a lot but never considered purchasing one until the HTC was announced.

Let me just say, it's really easy to get the final cost in the $90K range. I had to make some trade-offs to keep my build in a price range I feel is reasonable for a base C8.

I plan to keep my m6 ZL1. I've got too much invested in the car and I enjoy rowing through the gears. What will be interesting to see is how much the Camaro gets driven after the C8 arrives.

None around here, not preorders. We are inside the top 100 and contacted a half dozen dealers the minute it opened.

Then I'd take my business elsewhere. There are plenty of dealerships selling them at MSRP.

Yup, PLENTY had at MSRP, plenty sold @ $60K. How one chooses to option their car, doesn't mean the car doesn't start at $59K. Nobody forces you to add options.

Dealerships are a business. Cannot blame them for hyping it and trying to max out their profit. A lot of forum members are dealers or associated with dealers.

Plenty of MSRP dealers out there, just have to look. No need to pay the markups.
