Looks like when it comes to radar detector two of them stand out, Radenso pro m and Uniden R3. they both seem to be pretty nice, but r3 is like $150 cheaper so will see what I can afford once I make the purchase.
As far as dashcam recommendations go, they are all over so unfortunately I still dont know what to get. My first purchase will be dash cam for sure, since its more needed in my case than the radar detector so I will have to weigh up my options and go with one of them. Still dont know whether rear cam is even worth it. |

Here's a collection of several different tests for radar detectors...

Also as far as dash cam goes, mainly what I am afraid of is someone scratching my car, since I also go to university and there are a lot of people that would do such a thing. I am looking for at least 1080p and feature where it detects movement when parked, or if someone hits it while parked. Maybe it will be easier to make a recommendation now. I would appreciate more customized reply!!

Also, any thoughts on owl cam ? It has a cloud service that I can directly access from my phone. It also seems like a really good quality and motion detector etc. I might just go with that, since I am able to purchase it around $290. Does not seem like a bad deal.

On the Thinkware model I talked about above, it can be configured for monitoring for impacts while parked. It can also be set up to detect motion and record short segments. I know some of the other manufacturers cameras can do the same. Here's the manual. https://us.thinkware.com/download/f750-manual-en/

I like my Cobra RAD450 detector and have it wired in permanently for what it may be worth.
I have no suggestions for the cameras though, sorry.

I am running the Blackvue DR750S-2CH on my wife's SUV and the DR900S-2CH on the Camaro, the first unit is very similar to the Thinkware, the second one is practically the same except it supports 4K @ 30 fps or 1080P @ 60 fps on the front cam, the rear is still the same 1080p at 30 fps. Parking mode, impact detection, time lapse mode with automatic switchover to normal mode upon events, night vision, gesture controlled voice recording, the works. Installation is a breeze, I hardwired it to a "PowerMagic Pro" box in the trunk, and nothing is visible, no wires anywhere, looks OEM. Yeah, I know these are very expensive models, but think about the poor guy who just posted about his hard earned Camaro keyed twice in the apartment complex garage, he's now looking at a couple grand in repainting alone (insurance can help, but I bet most people don't have very low deductibles), and has no footage. You may thinkg 4K is way overkill and 1080p is okay, but the meat and potatoes of this stuff, face and license plate recognition is much better at 4K, you can read plates from much farther, 1080p is only good enough for 20-25 feet in front of the car. Depending on visibility and the type of event, this might not cut it.

The two that I was actually considering were Q800 Pro by thinkware and Owlcam. I believe they are both 1440p. So bit better quality than 1080p. They both seem to have what I want. I am just confused about thinkware. While owlcam has its own monthly subscription for cloud to watch it from your phone etc. I am not sure how q800 pro would work. Is that also cloud based or just sd card ?
