Its been put on hold until Chevy can figure out where to put the Lithium battery as Mary Barra has fully made up her mind and has insisted the Camaro and all GM vehicles will abandon fossil fuels as FF are politically incorrect. So now she will begin a campaign of forcing electric down our throats and killing off GM once and for all. Like I said GM should really be focusing on how to actually advertise and promote their products. They should be having bold in your face ads that people remember. The few ads that I seldom see seem to be focused towards fruitcakes and women.

everyone who has to do with electric cars thinks everyone lives in the city and could care less about those who do not. GM would be like on my god you could drive it for a week. For me if I want to go anywhere its a 80 mile round trip.

It is not feasible for auto manufacturers, especially domestic, to make a car like the Camaro fully electric in the next decade... The battery production capacity just isn't there. This is the reason why Tesla has its Gigafactories in Nevada and New York, and no other automaker has announced a mass-produced, stand-alone electric car (ever wondered why Ford branded its electric SUV as a Mustang? My thought is that they're trying to make the car seem more niche; to limit production).
This may have been the reason the Camaro has been delayed, as they might be reconsidering their strategy. If anything, I view this as a positive as it implies that they're going back to the drawing board; rethinking their electric rollout strategy as others have. I have nothing against electric cars, besides that they rely on an already-taxed power grid partially supplied by polluting, non-renewable energy. It's a good stepping stone to where we'll eventually land; fuel cell-powered vehicles. Instant torque and a low center of gravity make for a great performance potential, too. Contrary to what some automakers will imply, an "electric revolution" will not happen overnight. My guess is, in the next 20 years, 2/3 of the cars on the road will still be powered by ICEs, while electric and fuel cell-powered cars will account for half of all new cars sold. |

My question to the automakers and government would be how can you do all this in the next few years and how can it be done economically as in the cost of the new electric vehicles. The new Ford electric Mustang inspired vehicle is very expensive and most people can’t afford to pay upwards of $60,000 for one and probably won’t. Charging stations will have to be put up all over the country so folks can charge their vehicles between miles and this won’t be accomplished overnight. I guess once we have nothing but electric vehicles production from the automakers then gasoline will be hiked up to $10.00 a gallon or wil be priced out of existence and then our gasoline cars and trucks will be worthless because we won’t be able to find gasoline to run them! Just my thoughts on the situation.

I read Chevy’s gonna discontinue the Corvair too. It’s just a rumor though, I have no source.

I figure I'll get a ZL1 when I hit 60 as a "holy shit I made it out of my 50s" gift to myself. The 2SS I have now is strong, bug free once I got the shudder taken care of and has never thrown a code no matter what bolt-ons I've added (so far). Hopefully it'll remain solid for another 3.2 years...

My next purchase will either be a C8 GS or a GT4 PDK. 3 years away, until then I LOVE my current SS 1LE
Variety is the spice to life, do not become complacent in any aspect of life, there is a big world out there. Even if there is no new 7th Gen. Camaro, or there is and you do not like the direction it's going, there are plenty of other great options.

Not an electric guy by an means since I am old and remember the first hemi Chrysler. However, if you want Stock performance how can you deny a big ole electric motor. Would any Current stock Camaro beat a Tesla in Ludicrous mode ? Not any that I know of. I will always burn fossil fuel but trying to deny the performance of electric cars is really a losing argument. At least as far as cars fresh off he show room floor.
Old guy who will always have a gasoline powered vehicle but at leasst willing to look at the facts. |

RE the whole electric thing......
Electrics have their place with family cars and all the people who think they're environmentally friendly. But a car like the Camaro will never work as an electric car no matter how fast it is or how much faster it can be. People who buy Camaros are gear heads, er um, petrol heads ![]() I really believe, and in fact I would prefer this to be the case, that GM would and SHOULD kill the Camaro completely before turning it into an electric car. Or at minimum, change the nameplate. Part of the fun of owning a Camaro is firing up the engine and hearing it rev through the gears. Whether you have the turbo 4 or V6 or LT1, it's about the gas and oil under the hood. |

My main problem is not with the electric motor (that, by the way, is older than the gasoline engine), it's the bait-and-switch with them that is aimed at removing nearly all degrees of freedom from the driving experience in the name of safety and efficiency, even political correctness. Other, lesser or at least not as relevant issues associated with electric cars, such as the lack of sound and gears, are basically just a paradigm shift that we need to acknowledge. I will probably switch to uber/lyft or the next ridesharing service before paying money for an autonomous electric appliance that I have little to no control over, fast as they may be.
