You guys are hilarious. Any magazine says a good thing about the Camaro and you quote it like it's gospel. Anyone says a bad thing and it's a Toyota funded conspiracy. By that logic, maybe the positive articles are a conspiracy between the magazine and GM?

The facts are that GM has slipped recently when it comes to quality. Denying it will only enable GM to keep turning out substandard product. Don't you want your next Camaro to be better?

I'll say as a Detailing hobbyist, my Camaro has a pretty crappy paint job. It's the worst of my three cars and my 2018 Colorado is the same color. In detailing my Colorado I have found one bad spot of bad paint (a drip/blob). My Camaro probably has 5 or 6 spots with debris under the paint. Most wouldn't notice but when you're DA polishing and using an inspection light looking for swirl marks the paint issues become pretty obvious.

Hey my Colorado is satin steel too!! Lovely color.

My paint is great on that and on the hyperblue SS.
It’s probably hit or miss.

So JD Power there #1, yet CR there the worst. Go figure.

We've gone from paint pealing in the rain in the 80's to now needing a detailer to notice a 'bad' paint job, i think that's progress

There's a somewhat subjective element that creeps into these reliability ratings, that for me requires judgement. I sometimes wonder how these get weighed compared to issues like the A8 shutter, or the faulty chinese Mustang transmissions.

To most who are capable of observations on their own Consumer Reports has been a crap mag for a long long time.

My Aunt was always a CR loyalist and we would laugh when her crap broke from vacuums to cars. CR follows the snobs and the latest trends, not actual reality.

I've driven GM my entire life and do not plan on changing anytime soon. In fact I have had very good luck with all of them both new and used including a fleet of Firebirds. Most issues were minor with maybe getting stuck somewhere once due to a vehicle once in almost 30 yrs and hundreds of thousands of miles.

The nearby Firestone mechanic told me that my vehicle will last forever because it is a Chevy... (true story)

At the same time, I've seen much worse orange peel and paint issues on BMW's and Mercedes than my Camaro, and mines black.

We have come a long way as was posted. If you need an inspection light to see swirl marks, that is progress.

I think we can all agree that there are pitfalls to mass production, from part manufacturing to final assembly. Just like the world of modification...

Performance
Reliability
Cost

Pick any two.

my colorado and Camaro have no paint defects at all. And I've polished them both with a DA and very light / mild polish and removed swirl marks. Must have got lucky from what i'm hearing here. Is it the same level as paint on my Porsche? no
But it's as good or better than late model Japanese cars like Mazda - the brand I have the most experience with having purchased 3 new cars within the last 6 years.

The factory paint job on my 2SS is perfect for this price range, and while my previous 2LT had one tiny rock underneath the paint near the edge of the roof, it was hardly even visible, I never actually noticed, the detailer pointed it out. The clear coat is brittle and there is some orange peel, but it doesn't look worse than any other non-supercar out there.

Ya I mean it’s a pretty good paint job consider it’s a $45K vehicle.

My Porsche was over $100K sticker. You expect a better quality paint job.
And they deliver.

Good for you! Many others haven't been so lucky though. By the way, CR is based on actual reality, and the reality is that GM quality has slipped. I want to consider buying another car from them so I hope that they start taking QC seriously again.

My guess my Camaro will be reliable for years to come. However, quality control is pretty bad / hit or miss from the lowest to highest model. My 2019 - I had to adjust both the hood and trunk stops, the carbon fiber insert rubs the hood at the edge (I’ll have to adjust that), the dash insert needed to be pushed under the dash display, the dash spacing between each door is way off, the rear bumper seams are uneven, there’s a painted line and a small blob of caulk at the leading bottom edge of drivers door, the C for camaro on the illuminated sil bent by breathing on it with a micro fiber rag, had to re-secure the clips for diff cooler lines. Love the car, but there are reasons Camaro got some low marks...
