E85 Plumbing Upgrade

Been running the Gen5DIY kit courtesy of WildHammer Motorsports for a couple of months now. First off the kit is great, simple and straight forward install. The only PITA is getting the pin in the ECM. However, I'm not a fan of the mounting options and guides via youtube on where to mount the Flex sensor. Something about fuel and heat and zip ties just don't settle with me.

So in went, some Earls -8 plumbing and a custom-designed 3D printed Flex sensor mount.

Very nice. Been procrastinating installing my e85 sensor. Did attaching the pin to the ecu connector give you much trouble?

Next time you go under the hood, add some 50/50 dexcool. Your bottom tank is dry (should be half-full) and top tank is dropping (should be completely full).

The pin in the ECM requires some good light and a pocket blade flat head. Be very gentle and go slow or you'll risk breaking the pin. If you are in the wrong terminal, once the E85 sensor is enabled you'll notice your max content will be 17%. This means either the pin is not fully inserted or it's in the wrong location. Lethalcamaro or Sledgehammer70 aka Matt E. did a great install vid.

@Gunkk I noticed this morning when doing the plumbing work. The bottom tank requires either a tiny funnel or a very steady hand. Thanks for the catch though!

Thanks. Finally got around to doing it yesterday. It was pretty simple actually. I have my dyno tune with vengeance on the 18th. been waiting over a month.. but they the best so i guess its worth the wait. Mike did my base tune and was on the money, can't wait to see what he can do with it on the dyno.

Anyways..How do you check the 17%? Obviously im not running e85 yet. I started it after install to make sure everything was good connection wise on 93 gas. She rain like normal. Im sure the sensor not activated till you have e85.

The only way to check it is either with HP Tuners Scanner program or else if you have a BT dongle you can use the Torque App with a custom PID that will read the Flex Fuel sensor once it is turned on in the tune.

Ok gotcha.. so mike will basically look for it. I am running stage 3 tsp cam kit (32% fuel lobe), headers and rotofab. I have stock fuel pump and injectors, but lash cap on lifter. Should be ok to run e85 or do i need to upgrade injectors and fuel pump? thanks.

For a N/A build you will be fine, you might be coming near the duty cycle limit of the stock LT1 injectors.

If that is the case I would look into the LT4 injectors and the LT4 HPFP for now until you have to change out the in-tank LT1 LPFP. When you have to change out the LT1 LPFP then I would move over to the LT4 LPFP depending on what your end goals are for power level.

Ok cool. Ya i am looking into it upgrade fuel system next. But just finished about 5 grand worth of upgrades so got to let the wallet heal a bit. lol. Eventually i plan on installing a Whipple, but probably not for another year or so. But i will definitely be upgrading fuel system come spring.
