Tracking Car - Dot 4, Oil & Auto Transmission Fluid - afterwards?

Guys,

I was able to experience the track for the first time with my Z a few weeks ago and had an amazing time.

Before heading to the track I did the following;

1. Changed oil to 0W40
2. Changed brake fluid to Dot 4 (Motul 600)
3. As per track recommendations had them top up Automatic Transmission Fluid.

After Track;

It should be noted I drove four 20 min sessions so about 1.5 hours in total.

1. I checked the oil and she was still full and shows 97%. I am assuming I don't need to change this?

2. I don't believe I need to change the Dot 4 either back to Dot 3? Can I still drive with the Dot 4 in the car? I will most likely be going back to the track next year and will be storing the car at the end of Oct 2019.

3. It does recommend changing the Automatic Transmission fluid (after 15 hours of usage) I only used 1.5 hours so I don't believe I need to rush out and change either.

Just wanted to see what others have done?

Thx!

1. oil is fine

2. leave DOT 4 in the system

3. leave the transmission fluid alone until the aforementioned 15 track hours

Btw, DOT 4 rating is often not good enough for the ZL1. Look at the max temp (boiling point) rating of the brake fluid. Many DOT 4s are rated below what our cars will generate on track, especially with these calipers/pads and the weight of the ZL1.

Motul is great stuff so 600 may be good enough, but consider using 660 next time.

Motul 660 is still DOT4. DOT 5 is not a recommended fluid for our system so just look at the wet/dry boiling point. Castrol SRF, Endless, Brembo race fluid, Motul 600 or 660 are all fine.

Yes I know 660 is DOT 4, and not suggesting DOT 5. 600 DOT 4 has a lower boiling point than 660 DOT 4 (not DOT 5).

And many other DOT 4s have an even lower boiling point than 600 RBF. My point was, check the boiling point and don't just assume that if you get DOT 4 you have adequate brake fluid to track your ZL1.

Do not use DOT 5.

The statement "DOT4 rating is often not good enough for the ZL1" is ambiguous. Honestly, I am not sure what that means. Motul 600 will satisfy 99.9% of scenarios possible street or track use.

Stephen12ZL1 is right, not all are the same. DOT4 is a range and many fluids on the market fall on the low side of the range. Motul 660 or Castrol SRF is the way to go. There are others, but I suggest you get equal or better that the aforementioned.

I’ll attempt to clarify again, DOT 4 reco by GM is too ambiguous. All brake fluids with DOT 4 are not necessarily up to the task of track duty with our ZL1s, some brands of DOT 4 have too low boiling point like standard Castrol DOT 4 vs SRF.

Your example of Motul 600 is true, it’s a good DOT 4, but I prefer 660 given the heat at tracks here in CA and temps my OEM and DS 1.11 pads generate.

My point wasn’t about Motul 600 it was about the basic DOT 4 reco by GM, I advise people to read details of boiling point before they buy.
