I for one dont want to own a pure electric car. We own gen 1 Volt and for what its worth great car. Dont want to be wanting to find a place to plug in. Not enough stations to plug in. In addition when your on the go its always faster to fill up. Its instant power by gas no electric such as the Tesela has that quick turnaround. I live near a Tesela plugin station always see them full. What people do is plug them in and roll off in their gas power cars. Most people use them to commute back and forth to work for the week. We really dont have a true infrastruture for this. Plus their is no fix for faster charging within an hour. It takes 10 minutes tops to fill up the Volt and go over 240 miles on 9 gallons of gas. That is enough for most people I know that can work or tolerate hybrids. Not pure electric cars. I think Chevy is taking a step back getting rid of the Volt. I would accept a Camaro that is a plug in hybrid engine setup best of both worlds not pure electric.

All I know GM needs to get their shxt together or people will buy elsewhere. Why shove electric down our throats when reality of supporting the demand is not there both from customers and lack of supporting infrstructure. They need to improve the charging speed as well on the batteries. Let alone the added costs that is pushed of increase of bottom dollar we will pay to purchase. I can see a cheap pure 4 door midsize being more than 40k if thats cheap to some pocketbooks but not mine.

Here in SoCal we received a notice recently that SCE (Southern California Edison) will be having power shutoffs to help prevent wildfires. Also to relieve stress on the electrical grid during hot summer months..They stated that the shutoffs could last days (!!). What about, in the future, all the people (in GM's fantasy world) who would need to charge their electric cars in this situation ?

that's not true. All the companies are working towards getting it to about the same as a fill-up. the new Porsche 800v system is doing like 85% in 20 minutes. The technology is just going to keep getting better and better, longer range, quicker charging.

Actually quick charges are way in the future. Currently they are looking at quick change battery swaps. Pull into the station and someone...who knows who and how much will swap out your drained battery for a fully charged one, they will then recharge yours and swap it in to the next suckers car. I can just imagine how much all this labor will cost.

20 minutes to fill at 80 percent vs 10 minutes at the pump. No brainer here. Plus what is the added cost to have that system in your garage?

The fact of rolling blackouts in the summer and fire threats in fall will lead power companies taxed with the grid. Just look at what the power company just paid out on the last major fire in Paradise Ca. Why push the agenda.. I tell you its a money grab of corporations more than anything that is developing this tech.

We can do something about it by not buying any of them. Unfortunately the vast majority of the consumer automobile market are not like us. Chances are, if you're on this forum you like internal combustion engines and you probably know at least a little something about them.

Most of the car buying public look at a car like an appliance just to get from point a to b. You buy a washing machine to wash your clothes. Wow. Look at that direct drive electric motor run during the spin cycle!

Most people don't want Electric cars. Sure some buy them because its a fad and they just want to be "PC". Some buy for local commutes. To have as DD's or even anonymous driver cars people just ain't ready for that. Anytime a man is to lazy to drive and park his own car we are doomed as a people. All I can say now ...God help us. Now let us all bow our heads and please join me in "The Lords Prayer".

This thread has gotten somewhat off the original topic.
IMO, electric cars will happen at an extremely slow pace, if at all.

The petroleum companies have a lot of power and influence.
They will use all at their disposal to retain their power and financial
fortunes.

I'm out when all we can buy is full electric. I think the Volt was a great solution for the commuter car and would consider one if I had a need for something in addition to my Camaro.
