I'm just going to acknowledge right off the bat that I made a decision without thinking about it and I therefore admit I am an idiot
. Today I put new tires on my Camaro. I bought Michelin Ps4s due to all the awesome reviews on here. the shop I bought them from had the 275/35/r20s but not the front 245s and since they had to order them and they were actually cheaper i had them get me 255s (not giving thought to the increase in sidewall height). Now that I have them installed and drove around all day I noticed that the front sidewalls are much bigger then the rear 275s and it looks a bit goofy. So my question is, is this going to effect the handling performance/stability controll/ABS negatively? If so ill have to just order the stock size tires and sell these on craigslist or something because better handling was the whole point of these tires. I can live with the look even though its kinda off but not hampered handling/safety. Thanks for the help in advance guys.

So what size tires did you actually order for the front? 255/40/20? Or 255/35/20?

255/40/20 I probably would have been perfect if i got 255/35/20s but I just wasn't thinking about the sidewall height. and honestly didn't realize how much of a change it would have just one size up.

The issue you might run into is with the fronts being taller, the wheel speed sensors will think the rears are rotating faster than the fronts.
Several years ago I had to get new rear tires for my '96 Corvette. Couldn't find a 285/40 so went with a 275/40. The 255/45's in front were taller. When I go into some turns, the "ASR" (early form of traction control) would kick in. It was only occasionally and mostly on tight right hand turns. But that system was not as sophisticated as the modern traction control. |
