Looking for part number for the hood insert
Looking for the part number for the non carbon fiber hood insert. Looking for the black one. I have a custom painter friend that wants to come up with something fun for it. I just don't want to paint the CF one I have now.
Anyone have the part number? I understood that there is a carbon one and a non carbon one that will be cheaper. If I have this wrong please set me straight. |

You are correct that the painted black one is cheaper but both are still carbon fiber so I cant imagine even the black one will be cheap.
If there is a visual deficiency in the carbon fiber insert, it is then painted black. People joke about how it costs more to have it not painted but it's the work involved to make sure it's a good weave AND clear coat over carbon is expensive. |

Son of a bitch. I thought the black one wasn't carbon. Thank you for the heads up. If I can find one for cheap enough I will have some fun with it. May look to see about an aftermarket one for cheaper.

As Sibze said, all the inserts for the ZL1 (both 5th and 6th gens) are carbon fiber. The exposed version is an additional option because the weave is exposed and visible so extreme care is taken to make sure the weave in the carbon fiber is neat and even.
Be glad you have a 6th gen. The exposed insert for the 5th gen is in the neighborhood of $4000.00 or so. |

Mine is painted black, and the defects are obvious to the eye. I think they're more obvious due to the gloss of the black paint. I wonder, has anyone ever tried to warranty the insert?

Cheapest way to have some fun with it would be to wrap it

I have a black one I took off to swap for a carbon one. They are the same price because they are both carbon for some reason they charge you less to paint and clear than to just clear.

Again, it is the extra cost of making sure the weave is basically perfect on the exposed one and the clear coat on exposed carbon costs a fortune. It's a lot more expensive than normal clear coat.

I considered that route as well early on. I just didn't expect the ****ing thing to be that expensive. Same with the Rear wing. ( granted the rear wing for the camaro is pretty cheap compared to the rear wing for my SRT10. |
