Finally No Rattles!

True to Chevy interior build quality my ‘16 2SS has had several rattles since I bought it a year and a half ago. One in the rear speaker deck, one in the rear passed side speaker panel, and one in the passenger side door, all very annoying going over bumps! I tackled the rear speaker deck first by wedging a block between the steel deck and the plastic cover between the speakers. Then I had to remove the rear side speaker panel and cover it in dynamat. 2 down one to go. I finally got around to removing the door panel but couldn’t find anything that would cause a rattle so I put it back together and of course still had the rattle.

Fast forward a month and I was reading a post on FB about a door rattle. Someone commented that it could be the plastic plugs under the bottom of the door so I thought what the heck I’ll check mine. Sure enough the square plastic plug was loose and easily rattled around. I used a little RTV to secure it but can be removed if necessary. Bingo! That did the trick! So anyone with door rattles check your plastic plugs! Finally no rattles!

Can you do a write up on the passenger speaker rattle?

so, could you get the plastic plug to rattle when not driving? How did you know for sure it was that piece?

I just roadkilled my entire car front to back. Put a couple 12's in and low and behold, door still rattles. (more of an annoying buzz when it hits deep) I will have to look into this. How did you wedge your back shelf? I might have to tear it all up again and lay down a layer of foam in between. The wedge would save me some time.

I removed the rear seat back and bottom, pried the panel off starting at the bottom and work your way up. The only thing I couldn't figure out is how to remove it from the top edge so I just pried it out and applied dynamat to the speaker assembly as much as I could reach in there.

The plug was visibly loose so I removed it and test drove, rattle gone!

The top and bottom rear panels separate. There are three clips holding them together. Once they are separated, a couple tugs at the top panel to get the upper clips and slide it out towards the front of the car. A couple hooks hold the panels tight to the body beside the rear glass. There is also a 7MM screw behind the seatbelt/airbag cover ring.

No rattles in my 17' SS. But if I get any I'll check them.

I have odd rattles. I will have to check this. In my 2018, it sounds like rubbing between the dash elements and A pillars. Of course, since everything is so rigid, the sound could be coming from elsewhere. Thanks!

Yeah it can be really hard to track it down sometimes! Good luck!

I developed a slight rattle a few days ago when hitting bumps. I just checked my passenger door and its the plastic tab like this. I never would have thunked to look there. Thanks!
