A 69 ZL-1 does an 11.6 doesn't sound right, are you sure that is stock? That's as quick as a new one.

it,well, sucks.the 6 cylinder probably beats 90% of the big blocks in 0-60 or 1/4 mile.the only way a 60s car is superior to the modern stuff is when one of us old school mechanics is trying to diagnose a problem in the driveway.

It would get destroyed on the lap track.

1/4 depends on the motor.

69 ZL-1 does an 11.6
396/375 M4 does a 14.1
350/300 M3 does a 15
302 does 15.6
so basically anything other than a ZL-1 is toast up against a modern 6 cylinder.even a 6 cylinder accord or 2.0T.and you can bet the ZL-1 was probably on slicks and running 100 octane gas.

I understand that older cars were much more simplistic and easier to work on, that I totally agree with.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned how much easier a 69 would be to work on than any current car of today. This is a huge benefit in favor of a 69.

I'm sure this happens to others, but I'm wondering if or how you would respond.
yeah i've never understood this and my first car was a 68' Camaro.

Modern cars still lack style in a huge way compared to many older ones.

Who the #@$@%$^ designs a car you cannot comfortably put your arm on the front window ledge in a two door? These people need to be taken out and shot.

Ditch all the electronic crap you don't need. An older car doesn't run because you lost your touch screen This crap is truly ridiculous, nor do I care if my phone works with my car or if it had nav.

Give me crank windows. Give me T-tops. Remove all nanny technology, teach people how to drive.

Two doors, T-tops, back seat u can use and some type of trunk/storage area and call it a day.

Bring back the G body, the hell with it!

Sad that my only choice for 2 door is a Camaro.................... Bitching aside I won't argue about the braking, handing and speed of new ones vs. old, but you're kidding yourself if you think all the gadget BS will be working 20-30 yrs down the road.

There's no way that's on original rubber, probably was with open headers too. On slicks, 11.6 is about right. Bear in mind they only made 69 ZL1's in '69. That car is not at all representative of the rest of the breed. Other than Yenkos, Baldwins, etc. the quickest 1st gen was the L78 396 which is no match for a 6th gen SS or ZL1. It would probably be a good run with a stock 4 or 6 cyl. 6th gen.

I couldn't find any dets on how the car(s) were configured. It was kinda hard finding stats.

Here is a vid of an L88 vette vs L88 Camaro.

Looks like it's all stock and it laid down a 12.04

DA/driver/track/yada yada, I don't know if they could get .5 (ish) off the time to drop it to 11.6. I'd say it's *possible*

And yes, the 69 version wasn't the norm. I just threw it in as a comparison to the modern car.

Stock 69 zl1 was low 13s. A few mods got it to 11.?

Anyone know of anything built the same way it was 50 years ago? something consumers buy?

toothpicks?

yeah, i don't get this idea "They don't build / make them like they used to" inferring the old was built better.

I guess there are probably niche items that are built by hand still but cost 5 times more than the mass market version...like furniture or something.

i think i'm glad that my house, for instance, wasn't built like they used to using lead paint and asbestos.
