2018 ecu basetune unflashable?

finished a cam install and needed a base tune so i can run the car and get it to vegence racing. Well i took out my ecu and gave it to them, and get a call saying they cannot flash the 2018 ecu. Why not? I have no tuning software or equipment. When i called ahead before i started my cam install, they said they could give me a base tune via my ecu. So now i'm like how do i get it there? Anyone else run into this problem?

My first thought is the ECM was tuned by another tuner and they locked the tune. Did you purchase your car used or have another person tune it before the cam install?

No bought the car new with 100 miles on it. I'm the first owner. Never been tuned before. Mike at vengeance just said he don't think he can flash the ecu because its a 2018 model and would need the car to do so. Makes no since to me. Also, he said if he could, the price went from 225$ to 425$?!! for just the base tune. Im so confused... would like some clarification on why this is.

Oh okay this makes better sense. FWIW, the 2018 should flash just fine. As for needing the car my speculation is there’s no sensors, BCM’s (Body Control Modules), etc attached and he can’t flash it without it being installed.

The fee sounds right. For example, if he’s using HP Tuners to tune the car, the 2018 will need 4 credits for the ECM. The credits are $50 each.

Oh, ok. ugh, not sure what to do, i just need a single dino. Didn't want to buy software and tuning kit. This is the last of the mods i plan to do. Any suggestions on how to get a base tune? Car won't even run without base tune.

Put the ECM back in the car and bring the car to Vengeance for a tune. Problem solved.

Only way I'd get it there is tow it. With amount of mods I did not drivable without at least base tune. I am just going to have to get hp tuner looks like. No way around it.

Might be a better idea to get it towed depending on your distance to their shop. HPtuner is already $299 plus $200 for 4 credits, then you'll need to pay someone to tune it unless you know what you're doing.

To the OP:

It looks like Regina spoke with you today in regards to your ECU. Mike was in fact able to bench flash the ECU and looks like the price discrepancy was the credits needed to license the ECU as mentioned above. The concerning factor is that some of the newer vehicles equipped with the E92A are not able to be bench-flashed with our hardware and we always try to let the customer know up front before making any changes. I hope that you enjoy your new tune setup from us and happy to help with anything that you may need!

Yes, i just got the phone call. Thank you! I wanted to log in real quick and let everyone know the worry was for not. This wasn't explained to me before originally and i was left scratching my head. Thanks for the clarification and help. Excited to finally be able to start her up soon. Vengeance came through when others could not. Sorry to to shout wolf before giving you a chance to see if you could or not.

Im good with a wrench and have tuned many of my motorcycles before, but have never messed with hp tuner program and equipment before. Was super comfortable changing the cam out and adding the upgrades but, when your talking 200$ for credits on a program ive never messed with before... Thats where I want someone else to do it. But looks like vengeance came through after all, so no worries.
