Crash Repair

I guess this isn't a big deal to fix. I got rear ended merging into traffic.

The whole back of the trunk being askew like it is worries me a bit but I assume that's just body panel replacement stuff. Nothing structural in the car being bent. I drove it home and it seemed to be ok but I didn't push it. (I track this car now quite a bit and use it for weekend trips otherwise, but not as a daily driver)

Trunk is bent in a bit on the bottom right lip, the inner right wheel well liner is out of place and the bottom of the passenger door is popped out more then it should be.

The insurance adjuster is coming to look at it today and then I'm taking it to my dealer who has an onsite body shop for the repair.

2 questions,

1. Anything I need to be aware of as far as the physical repair like this that anyone knows of?

2. Is there any recourse I have for depreciation if the repair is documented on a car fax site or anything like that when I go to sell it or trade it in, the time I need to meet with the other persons insurance adjuster, my rates going up due to an accident even though a claim isn't filed through my insurance?

Thanks
Pat

Take it to a good reputable body shop and don’t worry about your rates going up. You weren’t at fault were you since you were rear ended? It really sucks that it happened but it can be fixed like nothing ever happened. Of course you will always have that accident damage in the back of your mind after the car is repaired and it won’t be worth as much to you as when new. I’m not sure about diminished claims in Florida but here in Georgia we can get a diminished claims check for a accident. Get your baby fixed and enjoy driving her again! At least you weren’t hurt and the damage wasn’t that bad but I know it is to you. Good luck Pat!

Thanks Greg.

It sucks but I know once its fixed I wont be able to tell it was ever hit, and as long as it still goes like hell at Daytona and the local track out in Starke I'm good with it lol

Ill look into diminished claims.

Thanks!

not to take away from the conversation, but what's in Starke? Trying to find anything in my end of Florida is out of the question(rarely even have an autocross here) so aside from going up to Barber's, over to NOLA or up to Road Atlanta I'm always looking for options.

Always go for diminished value if you can.

And find out if your dealer reports to Carfax, others. Those car history sites get their database from salvage title situations (state title), police reports, and repair shops. If you can, use a repair shop who doesn't report.

The bad news - your stuck dealing with this! Good news - that amount of damage should be repairable with great results. As others have said - push for diminished value. You will need to take that up with the other parties insurance company. In fact - if the other carrier will take full responsibility - I'd settle with them and keep your insurance carrier out of it. Its easier to manage the repair damages and the diminished value claim with the one at fault insurance adjuster if you can. Best wishes for a good outcome.

Thanks all,

Yes I'm dealing directly with their insurance company. I called my agent and they said the same Dan. The woman that hit me admitted complete fault.

Their adjuster is coming today to look at it and I will ask about the diminished value once we know the extent of the damages.

My dealer will do the repair and negotiate any overages with their insurance company from the original estimate.

As long as their insurance covers the repairs and the diminished value I am fine.

Life happens.

Keep you insurance out of it, unless the other parties insurance starts balking.

Thanks Guys.

I actually lived and worked in Manhattan for 20+ years before moving to Jacksonville. Ill give John a call now lol

Yes im going to keep my insurance company completely out of it unless theirs gives me a hard time. I already spoke to their company and their client has admitted full fault. Its USAA and I believe they will do the right thing.

USAA is definitely one of the best to deal with, on either side of the transaction.

Good thing its white, so it will get repainted good as new. Take lots of pics for the next buyer. He'll see 'accident damage' on the CarFax and you can ease his mind.

You also have the opportunity to get a 2019 rear bumper and lights of you like the look.

Quick question and one thing I never noticed until walking with the adjuster yesterday.

It seems the passenger door is now a lot closer to the fender and bent in on the bottom. (Its also popped out a bit in the back near the quarter panel which I did see)

It seems from the bumper forward on the right side everything is slightly more forward then on the left but the quarter panel and door aren't damaged. Just forward and out of place.

I'm not familiar with how they fix this kind of stuff. Do the they literally pull it all back into place

Perhaps its time for me to watch some you tube videos lol
