Go for the C8! The Camaro turns a few heads and is a fantastic car, but if you're mentioning the C8 and don't need a car for practicality then definitely get a C8. You and the Mrs. can go on road trips in it it has so much room for storage, which is shocking (the Camaro, as you know, isn't the best for practical application anyway..) I'm assuming you have a truck or other car(s) that can be practical. I'm trying to purchase my first home so it isn't financially smart for me to get a C8 at the moment. I'm 23 so baby steps to an even better dream car than my 2SS. I can live vicariously through you, though and your son would be so jealous of that car. A mid-engine 'super'car for about 70k!? Can't beat it and every single person would break their neck to look at it. A few dealers still have allocations for you to reserve one and get it around the beginning months of next year. One dealer I saw that is selling at MSRP and still has allocations is in Michigan. You could always try other dealers close to you or simply have it shipped.
C8 or even a ZL1, skip the baby V8 and go big, you'll have a kid out of the house! lol "If you have the means, I'd highly suggest it." -Ferris Bueller Quote:

I got my Camaro SS when I was just about to turn 17. It all comes down to responsibility. I save all the stupid driving for the race track but drive it just like any other car on the road.

idk. i had a faster car than this ss 1LE back when i was 19. prior to that i had a 350ish hp a body car, but they’re big and heavy so no real rocket. the ss maro now will be the easiest 455 hp to control there is. put a set of 1LE wheels on it and a sticky tire and it’s almost impossible to get the car loose.
only you know if your child has the diligence, i think the v8 cars are great.

My opinion is that if he would be irresponsible with the LT1, then he'd probably be the same with the 4 or 6 banger. If you think that might be the case then I'd forget a 455 hp for sure

On the C8 suggestion - kinda depends IMO. I have owned 4 Corvettes, C4, C5Z and two C6's. Wife loves them but doesn't love riding in them more than an hour or so. As a result that's not a viable road trip car. On the other hand she loves road tripping in the 2016 SS and that is so far her favorite performance car I've had - 911, 3rd gen Camaro, the 4 Corvettes, CTSV, M3, M5, S4, Evo, etc etc.
Has to do mostly with seating position, outward visibility, seat comfort, cabin space, and ride quality for her. in that order btw. |

LT1 is the 6.2L engine in the gen 6 SS.
******** Been looking at engines for a project just for yucks, and so far, they list it as an LS3..... ??? ********* At 17, if I had that car back then instead of the VW bug, I'd have lived a very short life. |

LS3 is what was on 2010-2015 camaro ss's and 2007-2013 non z06/zr1 corvettes.. camaros since 2016+ and corvettes since 2014+ use the LT1 not an LS3. LS's are the last gen gm small blocks, LT direct injection gen 5 engines is what are currently used.

Please do not let someone under 20 drive a 455hp car. Like many others here have said these Camaro's are very fast cars and can be deadly in the wrong hands. My vert is a bit slower due to weight than a coupe and I just can't imagine a faster car in street driving. This is the first car I have owned that I have to use throttle control due to excessive power is some situations. Don't get me wrong I would love a ZL1 but I know how to control the throttle.

![]() That said, and while absolutely agreeing to what all the others said about age and too much power, one can get used to the power and having to modulate the throttle in all situations pretty quickly. The mechanical or fine motor skill part is actually much easier to learn at a younger age---I should know, having learnt to drive stick at age 39 and struggling with it in driving school, while 17-year olds next to me literally mastered it in a couple hours. Again, the aspects of both respecting the power of the car and properly assuming responsibility for others' lives don't come that easy or quick.
