Anyone else having issues with the GM ZL1/1LE dark 3rd brake light?

Anyone else having problems with the install of this brake light?

https://www.phastekperformance.com/2...6-84330249.htm

It’s not sitting flush like the OEM one does and there’s a gap on the edges where I can see the adhesive. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled twice already with new adhesives but I’m still having problems. Water is getting into the light. From reading online this seems like a fairly common problem.

I installed it correctly, thoroughly cleaned it before installing the new one, it’s not upside down, I’ve applied a lot of pressure, tightened the screws, nothing.

Would swapping out the clips with the OEM ones fix it? That’s my next step.

I haven't had an issue, I have that exact same 3rd brake light. ENORMOUS pain in the ass to clean all that adhesive left behind from the old one, but once clean it fit fine. There is some play where you could install it off to one side or the other, so do your best to center it.

I used the clips that came with the new one.

1) Are you sure you've gotten the surface totally clean?

2) It may be difficult to apply new adhesive correctly; the third brake light comes preinstalled with it, and I feel like if you mess it up it will be very difficult to remove and re-adhere with new adhesive.

3) It's possible you have a bad/mis-formed part.

I have the same 3rd brake light as well with no issue or problem. Maybe a picture of the offset you are seeing vs OEM fitment?

Yeah the surface was totally clean, was very thorough with it. I ordered a real thin 3m adhesive on amazon, that should be easier to apply than what I did last time which was take a razor and cutting a thicker roll.

Yeah I’ll get a pic in a bit, I’m almost done with work.

Ok here’s two shots top and bottom. The bottom is flush, the top is not and I can’t push the top in any further. Ignore my dust

That’s how my 3rd brake light is like on my car. I still have the stock 3rd brake light on my car and the adhesive pops out exactly like that

Do you notice any water getting into the light?

lol not to worry about the dust, like you my car is all black so I understand the feeling of dust.

As far as the how the brake light sets, mine is similar maybe a tad more flush, once I lined up I put moderate pressure for about 4-5 minutes to really get a good seal with the adhesive, I haven't noticed water getting into the light what so ever.

I’d see condensation build up maybe once in a while. Not often enough for me to file a warranty claim with my dealer about it though if it gets to the point where I’d see it every couple days. I’d go do it.

I have bought aftermarket one. It doesnt fit flush like yours. It does look like OEM but not OEM. So are you sure, you got the OEM?
