Is it worth the money

Greetings all, I have a 2017 ZL1 w/manual transmission. I have a CAI and a ported throttle body, other than that’s it’s stock. I’ve been thinking about getting a tune. My question is, is it worth the money to get it tuned with only those two mods?

Nope... not until you go headers or cam.

I would do EVERYTHING you're going to install performance wise before paying for a tune.

Not a cost effective mod at this point.

Not sure if you have E85 in your area but if so, get headers and E85 sensor with a tune. You will make good power then.

If just CAI and TB, leave stock tune.

A tune itself can pick you up some hp so if you’re ready to trash your warranty and don’t have any plans for additional mods in the near future, get her tuned.

True. But the HP increase is modest and not a good investment for the money a competent shop would charge to do a complete dyno and street tune. Plus,if you add mods later like headers, pulley, etc. you will require a retune and pay for that. If you are tuning it yourself, go for it. If you plan mods down the road and plan to pay a shop, hold off until then.

If willing to void the warranty, at least make it worth it. Wait for more mods and then do a tune. Not worth tuning for 20-30 more hp. With CAI, headers, small upper or larger lower with a tune can be worth 80-100 more whp. Make it worth it

Tune on my Rotofab Big gulp, Kooks catless headers and corsa extreme plus exhaust picked me up 80-100whp in the low and mid range of the power band but only like 10whp at peak. So up to you how you need the car to feel.

Please clarify, like if you baselined stock 550whp that you made 560whp after tune?

I completely understand making more power in the mid range and that’s pretty much what you want. I just don’t understand how you only made 10whp peak. 40-60 would make more sense but I’m not a tuner.

If you have any more mods planned I'd hold off and get it done at once. We discount tunes for small updates but it still makes plenty of sense to get things done all together. It's also nice feeling the bigger power jump too.

IF you don't think you will do anything else major a good tuner and pull 25-30rwhp out of a tune alone. Sometimes more.

Sorry, no tune with mods I was around 598 to 602whp peak. With a tune I was 607whp. But yeah with those mods down-low I was actually losing power and ended up gaining 80-100whp from about 2500rpm to 4500rpm after the tune. Its a major difference in how the car drives now.

Good midrange power you picked up. As Ted Janetty mentioned, these cars love octane. I recently dynoed 667 whp and 690 wtq with headers and E50, no pulley added.

I see in your signature you drive a GTI. I love my MK7 for daily duties.
