Car locked, keys inside, door won't open

New car's in the garage. 2019 2ss. I can see the keys in the cup holder, but the door won't open. Is that right?

You should have a brand new spare key correct?

Did you set up the MyChevy app? You can unlock it with that.

I don't think so...
The driver's door should unlock with a handle button press when a paired key fob is within 1 m of the door.
Just checking the manual, the only two choices for "passive unlock" are "driver's door only" and "all doors." So you can't completely disable this, although I am going by a manual for a 2017.
Since the system depends on a radio signal, I would check the key fob battery (a CR2032)

Yup, it thinks someone is in the car so you can't open it from outside unless you have another keyfob.

You'll need the other fob, MyChevy app or onstar to unlock it.

Am I missing something? If l leave my keyfob in the car it will automatically unlock the doors if I lock them in the vehicle. Does the car lock itself after a certain amount of time if you don't open the door to retrieve them?

Yep you did the right thing by calling OnStar. I had to do that one time in the past with a Camaro I used to own.
