Muffler delete worth?

Hey guys I'm kinda new to these forums so I apologize if this topic has been beat to death.

I feel like the sound on my stock ss can be lackluster at times. As we all know, exhaust mods are extremely pricey so buying even headers is gonna hurt my pockets (I'm a college student so my school needs and rent come first). I want to do a muffler delete but I'm not sure removing the NPP exhaust is worth it at all. My 5.0 buddy tells me I should leave the muffler on as the NPP is highly desired and expensive. Just want some input from those who have deleted their mufflers or have alternate exhaust setups. Also does a fuse pull make a noticeable difference in sound?

I've did the fuse pull and it was OK nothing really for me to brag about it just kept the valves open. It's worth a shot to try it out. If you dont like it you know what to do. I went straight piped with the AWE Track Exhaust system.. I was like WOW and realized what I was missing. You can always keep the NPP exhuast and go back anytime if you want to trade it in. One thing I have learned though with the new system is how much foot I put in the gas..Less foot = Less Noise..More Foot = MASSIVE NOISE

I deleted my mufflers and my secondary cats. It drones a lot on the highway on 6th gear, but otherwise I love the sound. But if I could do it again, I would just keep the NPP and delete the secondary cats.

I picked up the Hooker Race cat-back setup when Holley was selling it on mega-clearance for $270. I picked it up as it was a cheap way to get the secondary cat delete and x-pipe.

I decided to throw the whole system on just for fun.. it is LOUD. Drones in 6th pretty bad. It sounds good, but I'm surprised I haven't been pulled over for it yet.

Before that I had the Borla secondary cat delete with the stock NPP setup. Getting rid of the secondary cats adds a nice bit of sound without going to overboard, but if you live someplace where they do emission inspections you may be out of luck.

The only thing the NPP fuse pull does is stop the valve from closing at light throttle cruising, mainly 5th and 6th gear. With the exhaust in track mode the valves stay open most of the time anyways.

Yoooo! I have a 2018 1SS A8 with NPP and I removed the secondary cats and had them replaced with straight pipe, sounds so good. Zero drone, no check engine light, and a lot of crackles/pops. TRUST. Should only be about $100 at any muffler shop.

One thing to note is whether you heard your car from outside. Within the cabin the NPP does a good job at making the sounds go outwards from the rear. Performing a muffler delete you might get more cabin noise which gives the illusion that it's louder. At most it was a tad bit more louder with more drone and cabin noise.

You'll get more out of cutting out the secondary cats and doing headers. In the future if you do more mods you'll potentially be putting the NPP back in there.

I thought of doing headers and getting rid of the secondary's, but I wanted the look too. So I went with Corsa Extreme with 2nd cat delete. I would love to add headers for the performance, but not with the Corsa system (it is loud enough already), but I don't want to lose the awesome look of those black chrome tips that are bigger than the stock tips.

If you mean by “muffler delete” simply replacing the muffler with straight pipe, please do not do that. It sounds like complete ass. Your Camaro deserves better. Delete the second cats, keep the NPP. But do not go pure muffler delete. For every tone deaf person who says they like the sound of a Camaro impersonating a dump truck, 100 will be laughing.

Your buddy with the 5.0 is wise. Don't delete a NPP kit unless you can put something in comparable. As others suggested, try pulling the fuse for the valves so they stay open all the time. You have your priorities in the right place paying for school and rent first, but don't cut corners for the "right now" mod when patience will pay off in the end and you can get some long tube headers. School is only a few years, a few more for some than others, but it is a small part of life then you can enjoy your car the way you really want to enjoy it.

Thank you guys for this information. I was about to get my mufflers straight piped and was giving up the npp but sounds like the best thing to do is get rid of second cats instead. Will be getting them cut off tomorrow. Also kind of a side not... I took the fuse out for the npp mode and yes it keeps the valves open at all times but if you go to system management and put the exhaust in stealth mode the valves close still even tho I pulled the fuse. I have a 2018 2ss btw

Put the exhaust on track mode and it will be louder with the fuse pull! Yes by all means don’t get rid of the NPP exhaust! Many people on the forum would like to upgrade their dual system to NPP but can’t get it to function like a factory system. My advice is to concentrate on your college education now and not on modding and spending money on your Camaro! Get your degree and start making money for the things you need and extra things you want to have in life. Good luck!!

It's well worth it, significantly louder than the NPP with fuse pulled and the people who say it sounds bad are just mad they paid $1500 for a catback.

You pulled the wrong fuse then. With the correct fuse pulled the valves will not get power and will not be able to close, no matter what.
