TPMS saved my bacon

Was doing 85 on the interstate in heavy traffic when the LR illuminated at 21psi. I was able to get it over to the right but was losing pressure rapidly at about 2psi per minute. I limped it over to a full service auto shop I knew was in the area and pulled up with 10psi.

I probably wouldn't have had a clue until it blew out or spun me out at those speeds, and I was approaching a sweeping left turn off ramp that I usually run at 85+ thru there, too.

This shop then tells me a 305/20 is too big for them to handle...WTF...a 20" is not uncommon these days.

Had to do a roadside assist and tow to the dealer.

When (usually older) people give me the line "they sure don't build cars like they used to" as if cars today are total junk, I give them the biggest of eye-rolls. The technology and innovation represented in these vehicles, including TPMS sensors, give us performance like never before seen...in conjunction with incredible safety! Thank god they dont build them like they used to!

Being one of the old guys, I love all of the technology and safety features. IMHO, the more the better. There are a few that I wish my ZL1 had (360 degree camera, front sensor / collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control).

you know you have a air presser in the back of your trunk along with the fix a flat from GM.

Maybe in a dire emergency. Free roadside assistance is cheaper than replacing a slimed sensor.

i mean he went to a shop that turned him down. so thats why i suggested that. I would think Road side would be my first option if it was a real emergency.

Not all Camaro's get the inflator and slime kit, if the car has run flat's on it you dont get that setup. Only the SS 1LE, ZL1 and the ZL1-1LE get that kit from the factory since their tires are not run flat models.

Yeah, like in the middle of the desert and no reception or humans for hundreds of miles.. then I might get out the slime

Well aware...I'm of the thought that at least used to be said that sliming a tire also ruins it and should only a last resort. That may not be the case, anymore, I'm not sure a tire is still road worthy after a slime job and opted for free roadside vs a potential of 2 new tires. Made sense at the time.

You running the stock Run Flats? When I had my stock RFs I must have had 2 or 3 holes at different times. It loses pressure and lets me know but still lets you drive at speeds below 50.

Well the SS comes with run flats, as does the ZL1 and SS 1LE (same tires as ZL1). SS comes the GY F1 run flats. The other two come with GY SC3 run flats. I don't know for sure about the GY SC3Rs that come on the ZL1 1LE (too lazy to look it up).

Back when cars could weigh 6,000lbs with a full steel body, look like a boat and only get 5mpg but that was okay since gas was only $0.18 a gallon.

Once inflation hit, you don't want cars to be made like they "used" to haha.
