Thanks man
Depending on where in MI you're located, you're welcome to stop by and pick up a couple quarts anytime. Or we can see about shipping it to you. Send us an email at forum@genesischevy.com, including shipping address and price you want beaten, and I'll forward it to our parts team. You could also call us at 586-775-8300 and ask for parts.

We also stock some pretty cool stuff, including Adam's Polishes products and Chevy merch as well as GM Parts.

Thank you.

Why are you guys changing your differential fluid so early? Is there a defect with the factory fluid? I am looking in the manual and it's not part of the regular maintenance. Unlike the Corvette, the ZL1 doesn't need an oil change at 500 miles either according to the manual.

Thanks!

It is not fatal if you don’t. But it is not unusual to find small metallic particles and fine grit in your diff after 500 miles or so as the new parts develop a wear pattern and break in. I changed mine at 500, 1000 and 1500. The first change did produce some small particles and grit.

Ahhh. Okay. I am almost at 1500 miles since I daily drive the car so I appreciate the information. Thanks.

How much is it to get this done at a dealer? $200? Does it just take an hour?

It probably is about 200-250 at a dealer. I forgot what mine quoted, but it may have been as high as $300. I just cannot remember now since I refused back when it was first offered at 1500 miles.

You can buy the oil online for less than $70 and it will take you less than an hour (with a beer at the halfway mark) to drain and fill the diff. If you are skinny, you can do this job with ramps.

Owner's Performance Supplement has these quantities...but I think someone said 2qts. Is it that variable, or is 1.6qts the quantity to use?

To my knowledge, you can't really overfill the diff so I just pumped until it was right about to overflow. Everything has been perfect for me. I can't tell you an exact decimal but it was around 1.75-1.8 quarts I would say...

Thanks. That make sense - Actual amount is irrelevant, just keep filling until it leaks out the drain hole.
