Well do you really need the tune? Like is it worth to wrestle the dealer? If I have it shipped to the dealer, ask for a copy of the directions?

Or Jim do what I did and order a Cold Air Inductions CAI for your SS. They run on the factory programming and won’t void your warranty and are cheaper in price too. The GM unit is made by Cold Air Inductions so it’s the same Intake just with some emissions tune. When I had some warranty work done on my 2016, the dealer never questioned the intake that I installed. They did ask though if I still had the factory tune and I told them yes so it was good to go.

I would be slightly worried if the ecm tune would change the crackles at all from the exhaust or anything like that.

Don’t think it would have an effect like that. You live in Florida so that’s the reason I suggested the Cold Air Inductions Intake. Just install it and go! Check it out on their website and it looks just like the GM one and costs about $400.00. Cold Air Inductions designed theirs first and GM contracted them to make one for GM Accessories.

Dapends on your dealership. I had a Whipple on my SS when I had it and they replaced my torque converter with no issues when the trash flush didn't fix the shudder. If your worried about it just put the stock one back on before you take it in.

Keep in mind each dealership is different and ones you have a relationship with are your best bet. Just don't use some $3 intake off eBay. But I never had an issue with a dealership for the fallowing.

Catch can
Cold air intake
Exhaust.

But each dealership is different. I know some don't like any mods at all. And some will even give you shit if you have the gm cold air intake and it was not dealer installed. I'm happy that the dealership I use is extremely mod friendly as long as the stuff is quality and the work is done right.

But the CAI is a quality system and they stand behind there product. And it's the most tested intake on the market. Gm tested it on a Dyno in an environmental test cell so it was tested at a range of temperatures.

The GM CAI is a waste other than noise. Dynoed cars back to back with and without...zero gain.

The GM CAI intake caused 4 months of misfires and loss of 150+ hp on my 2018 when the dealer installed the intake without the program. My car was days away from Lemon until Chevy corrected the program.

Wow, so basically, the dealer not doing the tune caused all that?

This is where I got mine. $394 plus shipping. Probably tax too, don't remember. Includes the tune but not the cost of the intake installation.

I don’t understand how he could lose 150 hp due to a GM intake and no tune for the intake! Doesn’t make sense to me but stranger things have happened to cause problems.

150hp drop that's more then an intake or you had the intake restricted down to about an inch. And I know people who been running the cai intake on there car since they came out as daily drivers with absolutely zero issues what so ever. No tune. Not a single problem.

So I know a guy who's used one since they came out with over 40k miles on the car. Week before last he pulled an 11.9. so no problems with the intake and no tune.

Had the dealer install the GM CAI a few months ago because I wanted to keep my warranty for a little longer. Dealer knew to have it tuned with the install. Seat of the pants dyno didn't notice a huge difference other than a deeper intake sound and a deeper exhaust note. Throttle response does seem to be better and it pulls a little harder in the mid range rpm but overall I'd say HP is probably same if only a few HP extra at the top. As far as it keeping things cooler I doubt that. I took it to the track on a hot day 95+ and my first few runs were at 13.9. After it cooled off a little I ended up running a 12.9 but that was with a lift at the end to avoid breaking out. My previous best without the CAI was a 12.6 so I'm hoping to get back again on a normal temp night and see how much better it will actually run with the new intake.

Yeah bignaz, that’s the way the Cold Air Inductions Intake on my 2016 SS I used to own was like you described!

bignaz: Did you read my thread...posted specifically to help others and myself at the time? The intake does nothing for HP...dyno chart below comparing completely stock car (the 405 HP), another with the GM intake (and tune), and mine at 75 HP low. This was the same day, same dyno, and within an hour or from start to finish.

I've got other charts with more HP loss...kept getting worse. The intake tune corrected the issue. Possibly a freak situation, but the don't expect much return on investment for power...sound - yes.

No worries - just offered one example of "it didn't work."

There are a couple of dyno graphs in this thread that show gains from the GM CAI.
