It's not really that they're too tall, it's more a combo of putting a 305 tire on a 10" wheel which is going to create a lot more sidewall flex, plus a wheel that has an offset to close to the strut. This is why the 1LE wheels work with 305's on regular ZL1's, the wider wheel plus more offset allows the setup to clear the strut (barely, as long as you don't max out the camber).

But it's not too tall. At least on my mock up of a rear wheel with 1" of spacers it's not.

No it's too tall, it rubs on the spring perch (which is above the tire) not the strut (which is inboard of the wheel/tire). a 305/30/19 setup works with a lower offset wheel as long as you grind the strut down or run a spacer, the rubbing on the spring perch would still be an issue on the 19s if the tire was taller. The ZL1 1LE wheels/tires setup works on a regular ZL1 because like I said the tire is shorter than the 305/30/20s, you still may need to do the strut mod to get max camber out of that setup (I'm not 100% sure on this). Either way I think the best option is to go to 19s regardless of what tire you want to run, but I know that isn't the best option for some people.

I have 295's on the front of mine and there is barely enough room to fit a finger tip between the tire and the spring perch.

A regular SS front tire is 27.7 tall and the 305 G3 is 27.2 tall. To say it is too tall is incorrect, but the spring perch has a little step in it towards the inside so the tire is too wide/rim offset incorrect for how tall it is. With a small spacer this will work. I'll probably try this after I thrash my set of 285s being mounted today although I'm still worried about the sidewall bulge and if it will roll over.

With all the other upgrades you've done to your car why not go ahead and get a set of 19" wheels??? Even if you really like the G3s (can't blame you they're awesome!) with the new sizes arriving soon you could run a 19x10.5 square or event 19x10.5(or 11) front and 19x11(or 12) rear and go anywhere from 305 square to 305/325. And it would be easy to step up to the G3R later if you want!

Oh lot's of reasons, but most of them all come down to cost. I don't like to call myself cheap (although my friends do), but my decisions are highly based on $/improvement.

Totally understandable! BUT... if you consider a 305 square setup that you can rotate the 19" setup is definitely worth it in the long run!!!

And what is the width of that regular SS front tire? The rim is considerably different too. Many have laid out why running the 305 up front on the stock wheel is a bad idea. It seems you came into this with a made up mind simply trying to convince us. It's your car, if and when it runs you can deal with that.

Camber plates would resolve this issue. 305/30 square on the stock
20” wheel would justify the cost of the plates pretty quickly.
