Had mine out yesterday and just could not get it to return home. Like it had a mind of it's own. When I finally got home and in the garage, I said to myself, "don't turn it off go back out for some more fun", so that's what I did. I just can't drive this car enough. It's a keeper for sure.

I have been on here awhile and posted a couple of posts, so many might know my thought process. I have had several sports cars in the last 7 years. Each one getting more horsepower. The M3 as it was light and revy engine, but still only around 412+ HP. Then the Mustang GT had a little more but had a Lincoln Log rear end. Very twitchy. Then onto the GT350 and more HP and I thought I had found "the car". It was ok. The "bog" in that car was terrible. It did nothing until 4k rpm's. So I lived above 4k all the time and burned oil like crazy.
Finally, to the ZL1, so much torque down low where I like it. I do like the 8k rpm engines, but not at the suffrage of bog and oil burn. I have learned to deal with wheel spin and feathering out the bog on the ZL1 and I have no issues with stand still take off. Can I do a perfect launch every time, duh, no. That just makes me want to try it again. The ZL1 is as close to perfection that I have owned and can say I have never regretted one moment of ownership. I have a great dealer I can walk to and do my recalls or TSB's. I have not had one problem with this car. I am hard on it sometimes, but not abusive. Well, maybe my tires.

I can't figure out why this car doesn't get more love, and sales. Supercar performance for $65K. Better handling than a Mopar, a track version available that did an incredible 'Ring time, and seemingly better build quality than the Mustang. It's a head-scratcher, for sure.
Oh, and WAY better looking than the other two options, IMHO. |

I do wish they would have changed the 6th gens to have a little larger window opening on the driver/passenger doors, at least. Navigating around a parking lot and avoiding curbs can be a little scary compared to other cars.

Visibility is a perceived issue. I thought the visibility was horrible when I first sat in a 16 Camaro SS. When my friend called me and told me there was a ZL1 coming and asked if I wanted it...in my head all the visibility issues I remembered with that SS kinda vanished. So I signed for it and was approved before the car ever even made it to the dealership. When it got there and I got in it, all those issues were completely gone and have never returned.

Back on topic, we absolutely love our ZL1. It's a fantastic GT car, and you can't touch the performance in anything else at it's price point. My only real gripe (and it's minor) is that the heated steering wheel button displaced the cruise control "cancel" button, and you can only cancel cruise by hitting the brake, or turning it off, both of which are a PITA compared to a cancel button, especially on long highway trips. The steering wheel heat button could easily have been put next to the seat heat button. That, and the highway fuel mileage, but I'm willing to accept that... you gotta pay to play! ![]() There's no other car that combines the performance, comfort, luxury and price of the ZL1. Doesn't hurt that it looks pretty good, too... ![]() Gratuitous pic from Beartooth Pass in WY/MT last week...

The GT350R with its big wing has less visibility than the ZL1 but the Mustang Fanbois won't admit it.

I have owned more than a few performance cars in my life. GM lost me with the cancelation of the 4th Gen F-Body. I never found the 5th Gen that alluring. I was even a hard core sports car guy way back when I was really young. (TR6 | Lotus Europa | TR8). The 4th Gen brought me to American made muscle. After that ended, I drifted over to German machines (Audi, Jaguar & BMW). The 6th Gen SS brought me back to GM. The LT1 was strong but the LT4 was calling.
Simply put, the best performance car that I've ever owned (period).

I tried ordering my ZL1 in May of 17. Put deposits down at 2 dealerships. Neither could get the order picked up.I tried ordering a Hyper Blue M6. I finally found a Summit White M6 but just other than that the exact the exact car I wanted.
Lived in Destin Fl at the time, the car was in Austin Texas. So bought a one way plane ticket and bought the car. The plan was to stop and do some gambling on the way home. Only time I got out of car was to fill it up lol. 13 hours straight, 3 tanks of gas. It has been a awesome car! Knock on wood but it never had to go into GM for any problem! Not that it matters any more since it went to Vengeance Racing earlier this month for some mods. But I love this car!

People have no concept of how to use their mirrors properly. Most who buy sports car understand that concept and accept that, but the Camaro isn't catering to the sports car person (although we all know it is a true sports car in performance), it caters to the general public who expects to be able to see behind them when they turn their head.

I beg to differ with the OP on the 350s going through 2 or 3 engines. Let's be a bit realistic and filter out the internet noise which says if 5 people have an example of a situation that it is systemic across thousands of vehicles. I had a 350 and it was mint....no issues whatsoever with reliability or oil loss. I also didnt drive it like I stole it every single time i took it out. Do that to any car for extended periods and things will fail.
Anyhow....had my zl1 1le for a week and it is far more noticeable both visually and performance-wise than my gt350 ever was. Also cheaper to insure!!! Looking forward to my upcoming 12 weeks of paid paternity leave to enjoy some summer cruises! |

if you turn your head - you aren't looking where you are headed!! Makes no sense to me.
Anyway - agree it's overblown. I've owned a 3rd gen, first gen, second gen and 3 generations of Corvettes. The 6th gen Camaro is on par with all of those cars in visibility. Of course all that goes away on mine when I open the top - but that's another story! |
