How do I find out about if it was a buyback and/or driving school car? I doubt the dealer will know/tell me. I saw the carfax they have on their website says it was a CA car, then NY for a short period before in MA..

It's not a buyback, no warranty blocks and the only warranty claims were for some noise in the front brakes.

I think it's a good car and if I were in the market for one, I'd take a hard look at this and if looks good in person, I'd buy it.

Thank you so much GearheadSS! If it's still available tomorrow, I'm driving up to see it. Going to clean up my Jetta today in case I end up trading it in tomorrow.

No problem. Good luck and be sure to update this thread with pictures if you buy it.

Will do. As mentioned earlier there might be an issue with the front lip and obvious curb rash. If I try to use them as negotiating points, I think I've seen the splitter is about $450, is that an easy DIY? I'm pretty handy. As for the wheels, I know there are companies that will refinish rash. Should I avoid that or not? If not, what would be a good cost to estimate per rim for slight curb rash, $200?

Did some searching looks like its about $100-200 for wheel repair. Splitter is about $450-550 depending on store and if factory or not. Just need to know if its a DIY. I'd assume so.

Just be sure to point those issues out to the selling dealer. Use them to your advantage to negotiate a better price. I believe the splitter is riveted on so I'm not sure how DIY it is. I'm sure you could do it but it might be a PITA.

There are a few rivets you have to drill out but mostly just 7mm screws and the 3m adhesive is kind of a pain to separate from the front bumper cover. I would recommend replacing it with an aftermarket lip since the stock one is hollow and easily damaged by road debris, cones, or parking curbs.

You can also pay extra to extend the car's factory warranty when you buy or after if you want.

20k miles is longer then the brakes and tires are good for so id look close at those. probably has chap tires and aftermarket or turned rotors and pads.

The CARFAX they post looks good, although curious as to why it's from CA. Anyone have other places I can check out the VIN and history?

It's $10K more, but a brand new one (2019) is $40K. You get a better interest rate for buying new, longer financing, a longer warranty, etc, etc. Not to mention, if you buy a used 1LE (basically a is tack car), there might be some heavy track use in that 20K miles somewhere.

Here's one near you...
