Hello guys, I recently traded my Shelby GT350 for a 2018 ZL1 A10 with 1000 miles.
Still got 500 miles more to complete break-in period and I'm trying to learn this beautiful car, and hoping to see if I can get some help on some of the questions I have.

1. Recommended oil weight is 5w-30 for 18 and 0w-40 for 19. Why did it change and what should I be using for better maintenance?
2. Heard catch can is installed from the factory. Am I acknowledging correctly?
3. What are some of the common issues for this vehicle, and recommendations for the proper maintenance?
4. What oil temp is considered as fully warmed up?

Other than these questions I have, would be great if you guys can tell me anything so that I can learn this monster faster.

Good cars are good cars. And the gt350 is an excellent vehicle. Love my ZLE, but definitely appreciate what the shelbys are doing, including the upcoming gt500.

That said, you're going to love your new beast!

1. You should go to 0W-40
2. There is no factory catch can. Some here have added a Mighty Mouse or Elite Engineering catch can
3. Not sure we have well documented 'common issues'. If you are going to track the car, you should be changing engine oil/brake fluid more often. Many of us have changed the oil twice by 1500 Miles (500 & 1500). Break in is 1500 Miles, so try not to go WOT prior to that and try to keep it under 4K RPM.
4. Oil 150+, Coolant 160+

Read the owner's manual as well. There are some very key fluids to change when tracking GM cars.

If you're going to see track time 0w-40 is a good idea but 5w30 won't hurt anything especially on the street. Have fun with it and when you're getting used to the power give us a call. We have tons of options to really unleash the potential

1) 5w30 is absolutely fine if you are not planning on serious tracking. 0w40 can handle both street and track and I do recommend switching to it when you do your next oil change just because.
2) No factory catch can.
3) No common issues. Just stay up to date on maintenance.
4) Oil and Water over 150 and 160 or so respectively.

Break in for the engine is 500 miles before you can go above 4,000 RPMs/Wide Open Throttle (WOT). 1500 miles applies to pre-track use break in.

That said, a few rips won't hurt a thing.

I do highly recommend a 500/1500 mile oil and diff change. You mention yours has 1000 miles, so if you don't know if the owner previously did the 500, then I'd go ahead and change them now. In Duluth, either oil will do fine, but IMO stick to 5w30 if you plan to drive in winter. My first two oil changes were with 5w30, and the Blackstone labs reports were fine, but I’ve switched to 0w40 ESP formula.

There is a clean side oil separator system, but it isn’t a can. This is probably the source of confusion here.

No common issues with the 2018 that I know of.

The factory thermostat opens at 180F.

The first thing is to enjoy the beast. The A10 is a wonderful piece of machinery. Find you a deserted, twisty road and just let it engage the performance shifting algorithm. Not saying that you may not want to use the paddles of the shifter itself, but let the A10 do its thing and you will be impressed.

0W-40 is actually a better winter oil as it offers more protection and less viscosity for cold starts.

I already went to Chevrolet dealership to do a oil change, so I will make another change at 1500 with 0w40 and its the Mobil 1 esp formula correct?
For the clean side oil separator system, does this mean having installing a catch can in unnecessary?

Catch Can is personal preference. Those running them are seeing results when draining their cans. Plenty of opponents to them here as well. I run the Mighty Mouse ones on my truck and LS1 Camaro. If I end up with a ZL1 like I fully intend to, I will have one on it as well.

Not needed at 1500; however, some of us are crazy enough and did it anyways.

Congrats. Always good to see another GT350 convert to an upgrade to the ZL1. I have never looked back, not even for a moment.
