ZL1 1LE at Autobahn CC: Full with LapsInc

I saw a number of other Camaros at the event yesterday. Was only my second time out so I was rolling with the beginner group but I managed some significant improvement to my times yesterday, running a 2:44.31 in my last session of the day.

(lap 5 is about 15 minutes in)

Per the other oil thread, I had changed to 15w50 in the days leading up to the event, it was about 50 degrees when heading out to the track at 6am yesterday. I noticed nothing amiss as a result of the oil, just utilized some mechanical sympathy while the car was warming up.

Now that my lines have gotten a little better and I'm carrying a little more speed I now have to shed that speed more aggressively so I'm looking at changing up pads and fluid before I go out again in three weeks!

since per youtube analytics, folks weren't really even watching the good lap so I trimmed things down. I'll have to remember to do this in the future, it was lazy of me to just upload the whole session video, my apologies

I still think you'd fair better in intermediate group.

LOTS less to worry about with less novice drivers.
EGOs are not an issue unless people are not letting you pass.

Its funny to see pics of my camaro behind miatas... looks like its gonna eat the lil car. Everyone in the Int. group was letting passes happen naturally and without much Passing Flags.

The only time i started to back off the car in front of me was when i saw a MazdaSpeed 6 turning right all the way to the bump stops, which by the way is about 9" of wheel gap on the inside, lol. It's one of those... "I'll chill for my own safety" moments.

P.S. Did you have an instructor?

Yeah, I had Alex for my first three sessions and did the 4th session solo. I picked up a ton of time (about 8s) without him in the car actually since I was able to just apply all that I learned previously without adding new items.

Nice. I was there in the blue SS 1LE. I think I met you.

I did not have an instructor, and I think I would have been doing some better laps sooner, if I would have taken one.

Picking off other cars left and right. You stayed calm, I would have been more vocal during the time the Cadillac driver not waving you by. Now I have a time to shoot for when I visit the course someday. Thanks for sharing!

I met the Cadillac guy later in the day. Super nice guy and this was his first time out and he had a 4 wheel off earlier in the day with the instructor in the car so I think he might have been a bit shaken by that. In the beginner group our overall situation awareness (myself included) is not quite what is in the more experienced groups so I don't fault people for not giving point-bys. That was the most egregious example in the entire day though.

In general I'm just approaching this whole thing as a learning experience and not getting mad at anyone other than myself (luckily with windows down the PDR doesn't pick up me cursing at myself for shit lines!)
