Katech already has blueprinted OEM oil pumps for prior LS motor generations, here's what they say about their pumps:

"When we first started using these pumps we noticed that they were prone to failure due to inadequate machining from the factory. Katech uses only brand new LS6 pumps for this procedure which totally ensures that the product sold has never had any failures. This and the fact that each pump is blueprinted to the highest quality has allowed Katech’s blueprinted oil pumps to be considered the industry standard."

I already asked them to make one for LT4, if more of us contact them maybe they'll do it.

Well, I will be ensuring they provide a full detailing before I get it back, but honestly I just want it fixed and back in my garage

Has anyone heard solid info about any oil pump revisions? Same part number, but has the company who makes them for GM ( what co. Is it?) revised the design, or will they keep failing?

Sometimes its not the design, but just a bad batch for whatever reason. Poor heat treating, imprecise machining, poor castings, improper installation, etc.

Given that we can’t vote for not having had an oil pump failure, all we can do is estmaite that of nearly 200k gen6 Camaros built, 18 had failures. (Poll result at time of posting)

I put 20k miles on my 16 SS and 6k miles on my 18 SS. Daily driven in temperatures ranging -24 to 100 F. Spirited driving with +6k shifts mixed in with lots of highway cruising.

No failure.

Update (or lack thereof . . .)

Well, my car has officially been at the dealership for 4 weeks now (technically 1 day shy) as it was towed in Friday evening on May 31st. First they thought it was bad oil pressure sender, put one in that Monday (June 3rd) and that didn't solve the issue. Tuesday (June 4) spent more time diagnosing and checking pressure and found they were getting zero oil pressure anywhere (with manual readings without motor running for safety). Contacted GM to verify next steps, next likely checkpoints, and Thursday (June 6th) got the go ahead and began process of removing the oil pan to check draw lines and pump. Nothing until late on Monday, June 10th when dealer called me letting me know they got the oil pan off and found the oil pump had literally exploded and they found shrapnel all in the oil pan.

Quick time check, was 6 business days (exclude weekends) to confirm oil pump failure (10 calendar days). They put in a request for a full motor replacement under GM warranty that night (June 10) and heard back that it was approved on the following afternoon (June 11). Motor arrived at the dealership the following Wednesday (June 19th). Tech working on my car had to leave early that day and was off that Friday, so little to nothing got done between when the motor arrive that Wednesday and the following Monday. Called me on Tuesday, June 24th to let me know they had the engine and drive-train apart and inquired if I wanted to do clutch work while they had it apart under free labor (and avoid 10 hours of labor to replace clutch down the road).

I thought this was swell of them to ask about and my wife agreed (I should mention my wife physically manages a local repair shop and still maintains many of her ASE certifications). She found me an upgraded aftermarket unit and got it overnighted to the dealership so it showed up before 10 Am the following day (Wednesday, June 26). Dealership called her when it arrived and said looked good to go. Getting antsy at the prospect of my car FINALLY getting put back together 4 weeks later and picking it up tomorrow evening, I called the dealership this morning just to get a quick update on assembly and verify if we were still good for pick up the next day.

It was at this moment my world began falling apart again. When I called at 10:30 AM, the SA told me he was just getting ready to call me as they were checking the new clutch assembly and found that it was a different thickness than OE and needed to contact the manufacturer to see if they needed a different slave cylinder for installation. SOOOOO, 24 hours after the part showed up, we are trying to figure out how it gets put in.

At this point, he also informed me that the entire transmission and the whole engine were both completely out sitting on benches. His assessment at that point was that IF they didn't need anything else for the clutch, I would be looking more at mid to late next week for pickup, but with it being July 4th he was going to try "really hard" to get it done before the holiday (notice my utter lack of any confidence at this point?).

Not trying to rant here (and realizing I am), just really distressed being without my car this long at this point (was my daily driver). Are my expectations too high, am I too much of a worry wart, or is there really something totally wrong with the complete lack of urgency involved that is likely to see me without my car for almost 6 weeks over this???? Oh, and I had to wait 2 weeks until a loaner was available, and it was a Colorado (BOO!).

Thank you for letting me vent. I'm done. For now. I think . . . .

since most are 2017 and 2018, were they late in the year 2017 builds to early 2018?
