I just can't see paying the ford dealership more $$$$ than that the mfg says it's valued at...i'm sure it's going to be a spiffy car, but certainly not that special. They tried to do it with me on the 350R before I found out about the ZL1 with all of them being around $5k adm?? Crazy & wouldn't even consider.
Now it was a little rewarding having them call me back several months later to tell me how special I am & would honor sticker for the R & that I got a faster car plus the GM dealer honored all available discounts. |

Get whatever makes you happy! That’s my .02 cents but I surely wouldn’t get rid of the ZL1 for a GT 350 to drive until the 500 comes out. Since you expressed an interest in the C8 Corvette why not wait until a few months and buy one. The GT 500 is good looking but the ZL1 1LE looks much better to me and when the 500 finally comes out I would bet that the markup will be $10,000 to $20,000 over sticker. Wish you luck!

Take a look at the build quality, panel gaps are terrible all over the car, stripes don't line up correctly, and yes, this is from looking at at Shelby.

If you want the GT500 which I think will be awesome but not worth the 100k (I’m pretty sure it will be that considering what the 350r has been marked up). Id wait and not get the 350r as you will be down grading for sure.

Uh, yeah and that would be the easiest decision I've ever made. The only thing they need to do is make the side window large enough to escape in a NASA or SCCA fire drill and I'd be using that car in sanctioned racing.

All good info here and certainly has me rethinking things. I think it's important to note that I have a full-blown race car with an LS7 detuned to race GT class. I know the ZL1 is a better track car with more torque than the 350. But, as I said I am getting bored with it. If I want the best performer to lay down record PB's, then I'd get the Z1LE. I actually had one special ordered a year ago and it came in with a hole punched through the hood, so I passed on it. But even then, I'd just have a better version of what I already owned - meaning I'd be looking for something a little different to keep me interested. This is probably the poster subject for #1stworldproblems.
The C8 is an interesting discussion. I'm not confident the base model will beat a ZL1 or GT500. In fact I think it will not. It won't be until the Z06 version (or whatever they're going to call it) comes out that I think will beat the aforementioned cars. Then there will be the struggle of actually getting one. I have a deposit at Kerbeck because they get the nations biggest allotment. I'm #247 in line. So I don't think I'd even see a ME car until June, 2020 at best. If i have to wait for the DOHC model, it might be 2021. I'm just talking about getting something different to drive around and do track days between races. The GT500 I will not pay ADM. I am working on a title sponsorship deal in exchange for allotment at MSRP. If that does not happen, then I don't get the car. Makes everything very simple at that point. The GT350 I will get is at MSRP right now; $64,000. It is not the R. I feel it's pointless to pay for the R in 2019+ because the only thing you're getting is the carbon fiber wheels and a seat delete. The standard 350 now comes with the better rotors and the Sport Cup2's. So, yeah I sell what I have and pay a little extra to get into something different to make me happy. Guess I'm still trying to convince myself this is only half ridiculous. Whoever suggested this forum, thank you! svtperformance.com

Things get old...
OP, I can relate. Nothing material keeps us happy for too long😉. I get bored easily too and have often craved driving the high rpm mustang. Mostly for the raw sound that mustang engine produces!! However I think that would get old quick. So far, my 2018 ZL1 A-10 has checked all the boxes. I’ve had it for about a year now and it stiil excites me to drive it. I love the low end torque and it is one of the best looking cars ever. People are always complimenting the car and tell me that it has the best looking front end of any car they’ve ever seen. The power and handling is super-car class and the front grill is sleek, light and menacing! The front grill so finely sculpted to the point there’s almost nothing there, which allows so much air for cooling. I have had allot of cars in my life and nothing can compare to the looks and performance of the ZL1. This ain’t no regular Camaro. The camaro RS, SS and mustangs are nice, but they don’t even come close to the styling and performance of the ZL1. I had a 2014 mustang and a new camaro SS before this ZL1 and I never got any compliments on those vehicles. I’ve actually had many people (including sport bikers) on the road slow down and give me a thumbs up on this ZL1. It’s an amazing car and I think you will miss it if you go to mustang. All that said...I’m curious to see what the C8 will bring to the table
Whatever you choose, it’ll be fun!!!! |

Read the forums first- find out the problems. I wish I had read the forums and found out about the engine ticking and rattling problems. Brand new my 2018 GT was perfect, no funny sounds. Then at 2K the ticking started, then the rattling at 4K, then pinging- and it kept getting worse. Dealer did nothing. After this I don't like Ford engines. This was on a GT though not a GT 350. The GT 350 engines may be batter. Granted I had problems on my 2017 Camaro RS with the shuddering tranny but that was not as bad as a ticking and rattling and pinging engine.

Yes, the S550 GT500 will be obscenely overpriced. Was told by a Mustang guy (had S550 GT350 when he told me this, which had replaced a 2018 GT Performance Pack) that the dealer demanded a $40k non-refundable deposit to put him in the order line for a GT500, and then with addition of the due on delivery, the price paid for the (eventual) car would be 105 thousand dollars.

Sure, give the mustang a try! And be sure to tell us your impressions coming from a Camaro. They're all great cars. Definitely a first world problem though!
