Took my whipple ZL1 to the dyno today and don't know what to think...

Took the car today to the dyno to see how much power she's putting down and I'm surprised at how low the numbers were considering the mods and that the tune really looks to be good.

I put down 645whp and 710wtrq.

I'm surprised torque was much higher than HP. It was on a Dyno Dynamics and the run was done in 6th gear (couldn't be done in 7th because the DD was limited to 150mph). Ambient temp was 95*F outside and probably closer to 100 inside.

Mods are:

Whipple with 3.5 upper and 9.10 lower
2" Headers, 3" Hi flow Cats, AWE Touring Exhaust
RotoFab CAI
1 Step colder plugs
Weapon X upgraded heat exchangers
JMS Fuel Pump Booster
93oct with meth
Stock Long Block

A/F was around 11.5-11.8 and timing was around 21* with 0 KR.

Maybe I'm just used to seeing dynojet numbers that are much higher or maybe doing the pull in 7th would have given me better numbers...I don't know. Maybe the lack of a cam or stock TB is what's really killing power up on top.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

How does it feel driving it? Looks like the A/F is in the ballpark... I would think you may need a low side fuel system especially with a stock cam but i'm no expert.

I'm not familiar with that dyno... my car has only been dynoed on a Dynojet. I would think in Texas you have a few tuners in your area if you wanted to dyno it again on a better day and a different dyno.

Sorry, forgot to add that I have a JMS voltage booster for the LPFP. Fuel pressure is rock solid.

Yeah, I'll end up just going somewhere else to give it a try I suppose. Ultimately I suppose it doesn't really matter, car pulls hard as hell. Even my Toyo R888R's have a hard time putting the power down under 40mph.

Was the car tuned on a dyno after the build?

100 degrees in the dyno room sure as hell didn’t help.

Definitely leaving power on the table with the stock TB. The 95mm TB is so inexpensive, that’s a no-brainer for you to add on.

You should get a 5" intake, ZR1 TB and have it retuned. PD blower cars making north of 650 rwhp really react well to less restriction before the TB. Just my .02

I would be disappointed that your tuner, didn't know this or recommend it. (whoever they are)

Car was tuned on the street, not dyno.

I've seen people put down over 750whp on stock TB, while I don't doubt it doesn't help my case to still run the factory one, I doubt just upgrading the TB will give me an extra 100hp. Granted, I guess Dynojet vs. Dyno Dynamics may be why. I have thought about it though, but traction is already an issue so I don't know what to do...

So, when I had my 03 Cobra tuned over 10 years ago on a dyno dynamics dyno, I was told the difference between DD dynos and dynojets was approx 12%. So applying that factor it puts you about 725 rwhp.

Hope it helps.

Dyno Dynamics is the heartbreaker dyno, without a base line you really have nothing to compare.

Seems low on the HP side, but there are so many variables involved. Dyno numbers are really just a by-product of how an engines performs. If it runs strong on the street then no worries. Another dyno on a cooler day may give a whole different result. I would not give these numbers any worry.
