Crossing the line to the dark side
Don't Shoot!
I'm considering a GT500. Yes, I still love the ZL1. No, I'm not crazy. I'm just bored. I want to try something different. I'll keep the Corvette race car. I just want to give a GT a whirl and see what another brands '700+' HP feels like. You can't deny the visceral feel you get with an NA engine screaming at 8000rpm. It's just different. Not faster, just feels like it. Anyway, I'm starting with the Voodoo engine in the Shelby 350 for a couple months before the GT500 comes out and then I'll give that a whirl. I'm sure I'll be back with the Gen 7. But until then, I'm going to try a Ford, and then a mid engine C8. It's basically just reallocating the original $70,000 I saved for the first Camaro. I'll fund the taxes and depreciation with the job. SO...with that said, I need to learn about the Ford. I have been spoiled on this forum for over a decade. Now I need to try to find something worthy in the Ford Forums and I can't tell the difference. Does anybody know which site it the more respected/legitimate? Thanks in advance! #28

Your just doing more of the same IMO with RWD. You should go for an M5 or similar, for the ultimate in AWD torque kicking the a$$ of the car down the road. I'd put money on it smashing a GT500, maybe not around a track, but dragging, passing, from a stop, mashing the accelerator.

Holding my fire.
IMHO, C8 (especially up level models when they are released; i.e. Z06, ZR1) are very likely to be a much more significant upgrade than GT500. Knowing the blue oval model, ADMs are likely to be outrageous in the first couple of model years. That could potentially make the up level C8, though likely having a higher MSRP, a significantly better value with a higher performance level. I admit that this is pure speculation at this point. A year or two before I pulled the trigger on my ZLE, I was hellbent on a GT350R. Ridiculous ADMs cured me of that. I received some good advice/info at mustang6g.com. Expect no mercy there as a Chevy/Camaro/Corvette guy, bowtie hate is rampant there. Best of luck in your decision. I would love to hear your impressions of the GT500 if you go in that direction.

...Then again, if they drop an LT5 into a 7GEN AlphaII platform with all of the 1LE goodies, that could be a very special animal.

I too was considering a GT500. But no longer. Waiting for official specs from Ford kinda pissed me off to the point that I'm not even interested now. Plus with the ME C8 Vette coming out, I'm thinking that will be the better buy. And as mentioned, markups will be crazy on the GT500. And that is if you can even get an allocation. It's just not worth the hassle. Ford makes it extremely hard to get into one of their top cars. However you can just walk into any Chevy or Dodge dealership and drive off with a Hellcat, Redeye, ZL1, Z06, or whatever you desire. Probably even with a discount. So until FOrd gets their act together I won't be buying anything from them.
As far as other forums are concerned I was on several of them back in my Mustang days. I'd say just pick one and go from there. |

Boredom has been the cause of many a bad decision. Good Luck

I've got a 2018 GT350R in my garage right now, my buddy is building a new house and I'm storing his next to my 2SS until he moves. I've never heard anything as mean as the GT350R and it is a really nice car. But that being said unless you're on a road course event the GT350R is really not any faster than a Camaro SS. While the GT350R has 526HP it's down on torque 429tq and the horsepower is made on the top end of the 8000rpms compared to 455HP and 455 torque in the SS. The GEN6 Camaro also weighs less to comparable models. You will have to pay a premium on the GT500, the GT350R new sales on average around $10,000.00 to $25,000.00 over window sticker. If it's just to try something new I would really put some thought into it before I pull the trigger to make sure that's what you want. The SS, GT350, ZL1 and GT500 are all really nice cars but make sure it is the model for you before you buy. You might find out you had the right car all along and then lose dollars getting back were you started. OR the GT500 maybe a nice move.. Best of luck

I looked at the ZL1, great performance what killed the deal was I couldn't get used to the ugly front grill. The car has beautiful lines until it hits that ugly bulky blocky heavy looking grill with just way to much going on. I ended up and just got the SS. The SS just has a sleeker grill that fits the rest of the lines of the car. Plus I'm also still happy with the performance. But I would say yeh...try the Mustang.

Get whatever makes you HAPPY no matter the manufacturer.
I also looked into the GT350 but know way was I going to pay over MSRP, for anything. I'm sure you already know the mark up is going to be high on the 500. Good luck...... |

ZL1 blows away the GT350. Wouldn’t even waste my time. That car isn’t even faster than an SS. I wanted NA power too, which why I went SS.
You really must be bored. |

The GT500 has a dial instead of a gear stick. I beg Chevy not to follow Ford on this.
