18 1ss 1LE pass seat getting hot

2018 1ss 1LE passenger seat getting very hot, like it has a seat heater. primarily the middle section of the seatback. anyone else experience this? scares me a bit, i don’t want the car catching on fire.

You need to get your Camaro to the dealer to get checked out! Something is definitely wrong.

my thoughts, as well. was curious if anyone else had a similar issue. it’s going in for an oil change very soon, i’ll have them look into the heated, non heated seat.

I'm assuming you don't have heated seats.

If not there are only three things I can think of that are wired in a passenger seat.

First and least worrisome is the power seat mechanism. Adjuster and recliner. But those aren't in the seat back. Not sure if the Camaro has a lumbar adjustment in the passenger seat. That would be mid back in seat.

Of a larger concern, there is a passenger sensor in the cushion (should impact the seat back) and an airbag in the outboard bolster. Both of these should be checked immediately simply for the safety implications if you have a passenger in your car.

Either way, if you don't have a seat heater, your seat shouldn't be getting warm unless you park in the sun.

All 1le have the same seats, you have the fan and heat parts just not connected. Keep us posted! I’d love to get my fan and heaters working

it’s definitely odd. my daughter kept complaining about her back being hot. i’m like whatever, she’s 11...complain, that’s what they do. eh nope. put my hand on the seat and sure enough it was hot af. next time i drove it a couple weeks later i was by myself, i happened to think of it and yup the seat was hot af again. wtf i say. oh well.

following up on this as the issue was resolved last night. allow me to preface this information: i bought the car used in nov 18, it had 1 owner and 2350 miles on it...

the original owner had managed to splice into the heater on the passenger side and had it wired to come on with ignition. i pulled the f16 fuse under the hood, seat still got hot. so i decided to check the fuse box in the trunk. never having removed the trunk mat or opened the fuse box back there i was shocked and relieved to see what he had done. the work was done right and clean, he had everything hidden, secured etc. 2 fused lines going to the cabin, i pulled both fuses and wallah, no more heated seat.

my guess: i know it was an old guy and i’m guessing his wife complained of not having a heated seat. he purchased the car new in september and we all know how women are with heated seats.

Good that you found it, most on here complain the seats don't get hot enough.

Maybe he heated it so his wife wouldn’t go for rides?

Except for the part where the heated seat was connected directly to the battery with no switching or monitoring to control temps lol.

The wiring diagrams for the seats is available as part of the service manual. Physically wiring the seats up isn't the tricky part of setting up an aftermarket solution, it's getting the controls right.

The OE systems for this will have some sort of thermocouple or other temp monitoring system to make sure the seats don't overheat and scorch/burn themselves or someone sitting on it (which they can do if left on long enough). There's also standards for how long skin can be in contact with certain temperatures to avoid burns that are accounted for in the OE control as well. Without knowing a bunch of specs from the seat and/or doing a lot of testing beforehand, there's risk of causing damage or burns. Since that can turn into a lawsuit and since the 1SS 1LE is the only vehicle I'm aware of that's currently in this situation, I wouldn't expect much to crop up in terms of aftermarket support. It's pretty high effort/risk item with a relatively low market space to grow into.

yeah, there is that. but none of the twisted together wiring wrapped in electrical tape stuff. every connection was a heat shrank butt splice and orderly. i don’t see how anyone could say the seat doesn’t get hot enough. i sat in it 5 minutes (back in december when it was cold out) and was sweating in no time. now i feel bad for ignoring my poor daughter haha.

somehow it had a trigger. it only came on if someone was in the seat, but was otherwise uncontrollable. i think it sucks and was a dumbass idea. yeah let’s buy an electronic titan of a new car and immediately do some half ass wiring. and then trade it 2 months later for a 15k loss. genius.
