it only really happens like maybe 1 out of 15 times. I will take it for another spin when i get my car back in a few days, its in the detail shop for a ceramic coating. I hope its user error as opposed to a transmission issue.

So, it looks like, as you push/pull the shifter to the left (towards you) to get into reverse, the shifter moves freely to a point; in which the shifter than seems to have to pass through a "gate", if you will. When the shifter is about this "gate", that is when you are having your issue, is that right?

Looks like that video is with the car/engine off (you didn't note this, but it doesn't seem like the engine is running). If that is the case, I would say you are looking at an issue with the the reverse lock-out or the shifter linkage. Honestly, I cannot remember the "normal" operation of the TR3160 for the non-V8 Camaros. There is likely some resistance as you move into that "gate" area, but it should be very minor and really just provide "feel" for moving towards revers.

I would at least stop by a dealer that has a manual, non-V8 Camaro and check how the shifter feels. But the issue doesn't seem to be the operator.

Not going into reverse happens occasionally with all manuals. I usually let the clutch out while in neutral and try again. Or put it in first gear and then try reverse again.

The same thing happens to me and my 2017 with nearly 20k miles. If I am not careful, I sometimes need to put it in neutral and try a second time. Nothing unusual. Gears and their assorted spinning bits do not always line up perfectly. I have been driving manual transmission vehicles for a long time, and reverse almost always hangs up occasionally with every manual transmission that I can remember.

I think the reverse gate safety for the M6 Tremec is a little stiff—which is a good thing.

Missed this note. Thought it was more repetitive...

You can get initial gear lockout like this from time to time, like others said.

MANual, lol

On my 2016 LGX M6 I have to pull harder left and up to get into reverse then to shift 1-6. Every manual I have ever had except on the tree was like that. If it doesn't go into gear then engage the clutch slightly then disengage clutch and throw into gear. during the winter mine shifts really hard till it gets warmed up and it did help to change the fluid but at 500 miles that should not be needed. There is no break in for the shifter and GM is not going to give you a new car for shifting issues.

Every manual car I have, I always put it into another gear before reverse. Always. It has become a habit after years of driving old stuff. I bet if you put it in 3rd or whatever, THEN reverse, you probably won't have an issue again.

Its happens to me at least once when I am out driving. These are one of the best manual transmissions. I wouldn't worry about it and just keep practicing!

I agree that this is rather benign things that come with a manual transmission. Driving stick isn't for everyone.

Old Muscle car advice. Before shifting into reverse shift into first, and then reverse this stops the trans from spinning and reverse is easy.

A few weeks ago I experienced an odd issue with my transmission. Parked the car after coming in from a track session, left it in reverse. When I tried to take it out of gear it locked. Wouldn't do anything but R, 5th, 6th with a lot of effort. Tried rocking the car back and forth, restarting, etc. Finally it freed up and haven't had an issue ever since. Very strange. Anyone else experience this fluke?

That's a great point, I think most of us do that without even realizing it.
