So let restate. The issue here isnt 'should I get a ZL1' the issue here is... there will be a better time to do it...when you're not so top heavy. First pay down your loan, then worry about a ZL1 when it makes more financial sense.

I'm gonna toss in my $.02... Let's forget the financial aspect for a minute. I have owned performance cars, one after another, since I was 19 (I'm 42 now). On average, I keep my cars for about 13 months. That's why I tend to buy used (I'll toss in a new car lease here and there). Having owned well over 2 dozen performance cars already, the best advice I can give is this:
You need to learn car control first and foremost. I'm sure owning an SS, you think you have it down. In reality, it takes years of unique situations and experience to become more skilled at controlling your car. When young car enthusiasts ask me what to buy (and I find out what their needs and financial situation stands), I almost always recommend a GTI or a Civic Si. Don't let me lose you here, because I'm trying to make a point... FWD performance cars offer you the gift of learning proper car control without the imminent risk of death. I then recommend for them to buy an AWD performance car (that's after they've really honed in their skills on FWD), something like a WRX, STi, Evo, S4, Golf R, etc... AWD is the next step to leaning car control before jumping into a powerful RWD car. Then, when first jumping into a RWD car, I tend to recommend cars that have a forgiving nature, like a 3 Series, C class, maybe even a 350Z (but I usually never recommend for them to buy a GT Mustang or SS Camaro, at least not while they're learning RWD. You've already dove in, head first! Which is fine, you seem to be doing good with it. But the idea of adding boosted 200hp to the rear wheels is just a bad idea. You're simply playing Russian roulette. You might survive, yes, but the odds are not in your favor. To me (and I take a lot of risks), that's just too much power and too much risk to ask anyone your age to control. I know you're going to end up doing whatever you have locked in on already, but I figured I'd give it a shot... If you met me in person, and saw that I wasn't some little punk you could just brush off, you'd realize the value in my words here... Anyway, good luck with whatever you choose. To me, this is absolutely not a financial decision. It's almost like too much power too soon. What would you even work up to after owning a 650hp car at 21??? Enjoy the car you have, or if you're bored with it, get a different car, but I would simply advise against a Supercar level of performance... At least for now

^^^ wise words to live by, literally.
Despite being (quite) a bit older than 21, I still regularly remind myself to respect the ZL1-like power in my boosted SS and not act like a fool. It only takes a split second of losing focus or control at speed to wind up in a tragedy.

I sold a Gen 5 Camaro over 500hp and a all stock Corvette Grand Sport to get into a ZLE. Was it worth it? Only time will tell, right now I sure think so. I have a 2018, pretty great.
