Hurst short throw shifter Review

I was debating on whether or not to install the shifter but I bit the bullet and paid the $400 labor fee to get it installed. HOLY SHIT!

For starters I am a car enthusiast and have owned everything from BRZs to a 2017 Shelby gt350 to a TYPE R. And let me tell you, those cars had some nice shifting shifters for sure.

Anyways, I can whole heartedly recommend the HURST shifter. The shifts are tight and takes more effort to get into gear but it's a satisfying and positive engagement that will make you want to do it over and over. The shifter is reminiscent to the one in the GT350 but shorter and with less slop. I like it better than the GM short throw as well. It feels like there is more positive engagement in gear and there is less movement in the stick when in gear. I thought the stock shifter was fine but after having this installed the stock shifter definitely felt less precise.

Thought I'd leave this review as its been awhile since there was news on this and I had been searching for some reviews for a bit. Hope it helps sways you toward getting one. Cheers!

I had the same experience in my 4th gen with the factory Hurst...upgraded to the aftermarket Hurst for a much more direct feel and better positive engagement as you stated.

Glad you like yours, enjoy!

Might be a move I make - coming from a 4th gen with the factory hurst, the stock 6th gen SS shifter feels like the shortest of short throws, so I'm not itching to make the change now, but for a cheap boost in fun value it seems worthwhile.

I know. My '01 SS took 20 minutes.

Thanks for the info, Prowl. I really might make the leap. I never thought to price out labor because I assumed at would be a lot more than $400. Seems very reasonable considering the work involved.

Is this the one?

Would you recommend it for street / daily driving?

I suppose installation procedure is the same as with the GM short-throw shifter?

this is the exact one. I do recommend it for street and DD. The installation is the same as the GM short throw. If youre going to do it might as well do the hurst as it is much shorter

the gm 1le zl1 shifter is only 6% shorter then the SS so not worth the install. the Hurst is 40% shorter.

I should have bought a ZL1

I just ordered one for my car; can't wait to install it.

The ZL1 throws are short but could be better. I installed a short throw shifter on an Audi I had. The difference was night and day. After the install I could never see myself going back to the stock shifter.

4 posts because that’s when I bought my ss. Trust me, if I had a Dolorean with a flux capacitor with one run to use I’d use it to go back a year to post more on this forum

Love my Hurst too. I installed back in July 2016, and it's still great. Highly recommend. Install took most of a day for me, but I'm slow n picky and have only jack stands. Exhaust comes out easy, for me it was removing stock shifter those keeper pins were a pain. But it's definitely worth it.
