Or would you rather be 2 miles? My point being if you have some crazy far range you will pick up signals that may not even pertain to you...on a cross road miles away...im telling you from experience my 360 is fn awrsome! I get a laser hit and i know i will run into him in a min or so....just because you have some crazy long range doesnt mean its useful! It just might drive you nuts
Well for one I consider laser essentially useless. I have gotten laser falses on every detector I own far more than legitimate hits...plus if you get a hit you've also already got a ticket if you're speeding. The odds of getting a refracted warning from a hit on another car are infinitesimal IMO.

Also I don't know of any detectors picking up signals at 8 miles even on the salt flats, lol.

The testing I saw shows differences of maybe 1000ft (1/5 of a mile) between the R7 and 360 under various circumstances, and similar between R7 and V1 (which I also own).

Still testing out the R7 since it's so new, but after relying on a V1 for 10+ years I think it could finally be the one with enough features and functionality to knock the V1 off its perch, other than the build quality since the V1 is a tank.

Has anyone ever tried the laser jammers? I know they are illegal in some states (along with radar detectors), But I'm curious if they work at all.

They work. I know a few people that run them...They're hoping that if they ever do get caught the "They're parking sensors" story will work.

Jesus...im telling you from actual experience...over the last year and multiple road trips...the escort max 360 is awesome! EVER SINGLE laser alert that has gone off has turned out to be a cop usually FHP...the only other time a laser signal has gone off is at one specific toll both. It is a fantastic detector for around town or in cities because you can block out signals and store them and it does some automatically. It is extremely good...i often forget it is there. Im only writing this because im trying to be helpful and am giving real world experience examples.

If price is a factor I have been happy with my Escort X80, it doesn't have arrows but is a long range unit.

Not to hijack the thread, but if anyone can answer this question, it might be helpful to others.

I bought an R7 and it seems to work really well so far, I have had it about two weeks. However the volume on it kind of sucks. Between the engine, windows down and radio I can barely hear it at max volume. I even sent Uniden an inquiry about producing louder tones on their next firmware update if possible (no reply yet). I have it mounted next to the rear view mirror with a mirror tap so that if I don't hear an alert, hopefully my eye will catch the screen. If I have the radio up, no way I'd hear it.

So my question is, can anyone tell me if the MAX 360c is any louder, as I am thinking of returning the R7 and the 360 looks like the next best thing? Opinions please.

i might be able to tell u soon. I have the 360 now and have a R7 being delivered tomorrow. Just a FYI, the Blend Mount is supposed to be available mid June. I put myself on the wait list. I was going to hold off on the R7, but got it on Amazon for $70off for signing up for their CC.

Nice, I'm on the blendmount waiting list also, but actually, I am totally happy with where the R7 sits beside my mirror on the included suction cups. Not sure how that is going to work when it gets cooler though; figure it will probably fall with the temperature change between morning/afternoon and vice versa.

I run the single suction cup mount right under the rear view mirror and use the cigarette power cord. I like having the mute button on the cord and the wire doesn't bother me at all. As far as volume, it's loud enough for me and I'm running kooks axle back which is very loud. I do have it on max volume and auto mute at 1.

Best windshield mount detector is the Escort Max 360c. R7 will have longer range detection, but having a quiet detector is better. You don't need 4,800 feet of range. 2,000 is plenty. Having good BSM filtering is critical and eliminates the annoying falsing. Also GPS lockouts are also important. They will auto learn and lockout unwanted signals using GPS. The Max 360c has significantly better BSM filtering than both V1 and the new R7 with GPS lockouts. The Max 360c has wifi built in, so you can get automatic updates if you connect it to your hotspot or home wifi signal. Check out Vortex Radar's website and youtube channel for more intel, testing, recommendations, and results. Also RDForums.com. There is a wealth of knowledge on all things detection in those two places.

Only Caveat i see IMO based on what you wrote, i don't think u can increase range thru firmware, but i would believe they can improve the R7 filtering thru firmware which would give best of both worlds.

When Police run radar many times it’s on stand by mode. It’s then switched on and you are toast.
