Funny thing the mustang GTs have had this since 2011 when the 5.0 came out. And they too had the sound tube with TWO of those little damper sponges in the tubes.
Caution, when you remove them, they make the sound from those tubes much louder, and more centered around the hole in the firewall where they are pumped into the cabin. It really sounded like crap when all your engine sound was at your feet, because it was so much louder now. Personally once I did that mod, I ended up ripping out the whole tube assembly and plugging the firewall and the airbox with a few rubber stoppers. It was much better to hear the natural engine sound. And once I got an aftermarket exhaust, that didnt matter anymore because you could no longer hear the engine... |

Yeah it was bad in the mustang. It sounded like there was a speaker at your knees, with engine sounds being pumped out of it. But this is cool. Sounds like its a positive thing here for the 6th gen.

Has anyone tried a different material in place of the foam?
Just like with speaker cabinets; foam, cotton, or whatever lining the inside of the speaker's box changes the sound. The stock foam plug seems to block 80% of the sound. I am tempted to try balled-up felt, cotton, or whatever to see what it sounds like. Maybe there's another material that would sound better than our current choice of "stock foam plug" OR no "stock foam plug".. |

I just popped mine open last night, and I can't find any foam piece anywhere. I went in a good 3-4 inches with a screwdriver and felt nothing in there. Is it possible that some Camaros came without it? Mine is a 2018 1LT V6

with the 2016-2019 Camaro sound tube. I've removed the entire tube from air intake to firewall to study it and remove the foam. There is a passive radiator in the puck that acts like a drum but there is nothing electronic involved. BTW, I put the foam back in because the noises made during AFM cylinder shut-off/turn-on were just too nasty to listen too. PS: Just clicked your link. Sound enhancement refers to people with the dual mode performance exhaust option where you can open and close vents inside your exhaust pipes via the infotianment screen to make the sound of the exhaust louder. This is a totally different thing from the sound tube which is just a plastic pipe with a passive radiator in it that runs from your air intake to your firewall. |

Instead of making a new thread I'm bumping this one back up, since it makes more sense. I went ahead and pulled the foam out on my 2018 V6. My impressions? To describe what I was hearing might be kind of hard, but I'll try lol. First I'll say that overall I prefer it with the foam in. I got none of the ratcheting odd type sounds that have been mentioned in here, but the sound at WOT (and even midange to some extent) was kind of odd. With the foam out it had a slightly deeper tone, but as it approached redline it made a very weird frequency just for a second. Sort of like when add to much bass or treble in a car stereo and get that strange hum or whatever. Well that's kind of what it did. It sounded distorted for lack of a better description. With the foam in it sounded higher pitched (maybe even a tad more raspy like) but the pitch just sounded more correct I think. Honestly it sounded just as loud with it in, except for that brief second or two where it made that weird distorted humming type sound. I guess you could say that something just didn't sound right with it out. Other than the aggressive and WOT runs it sounded the same IMO. Just thought I'd share for the V6 croud
