Buying first camaro

Hi everyone, I am taking the plunge into the Camaro world.

Coming from a Focus ST that had full bolt ons, coil overs, upgraded large turbo, lightweight wheels etc.

I am looking to purchase a 2019 1SS with factory 20" black wheels, 10 speed trans and hopefully a sun roof. I have the dealership in agreement for $44,495 CAD ($33,365 USD at current exchange rate) @ 1.99%.

I have been going over the forums but am looking for any first time buyer advice to drop on me.

Also, do the seats from the 2016+ fit in the 2019s? I am going to be keeping my eyes open for a swap.

Does anyone suggest a front plate license mount to avoid drilling holes in the bumper?

I plan on doing a full exhaust. I am not used to the muscle car mod scene. I am familiar with downpipes, catbacks etc from the turbo world.

What steps should I take when doing the exhaust to have a great sound, with mufflers (dont want any hassle with LE).

Thank you

Are you getting the NPP exhaust option? If so you could always pull the fuse to keep the valves open. I personally have the Corsa extreme system on my car and couldn't be happier. Of course if you're looking for real crazy sound you could always go with catless long tubes and get that real V8 sound

The interior hasn't changed the layout & dash so 16 seats will fit. Infotainment was only interior update. You might want a license plate to break up the sea of black on the SS's. Why not a leftover SS from 2018 with cooler front & tail?

What is the difference in 2016 and 2019 seats? I have the NPP (adjustable) exhaust and really like it. My last car was a 2004 Corvette and I changed the exhaust to Borla but could not stand the drone on the hwy (65-75 mph) so I change them out for Magnaflow which was a little to quiet but no drone and better sounding then the OEM exhaust. The NPP is a very nice sounding system.

A lot of people here use a hide-a-plate for the front. Not sure where to get it, but a quick search on this site or the internet in general might pull it up for you.

Sounds like a nice Camaro you are going to buy but why change the seats out? The 1SS and 2SS are basically the same except the 2SS seats are leather and heated/cooled as compared to the 1SS which are cloth and non heated/cooled. Unless you are asking about the Recaro seats in the 1LE and 2LE or the ZL1 would make more sense to change to them but they are expensive new or even used.

id use a hide a plate.make sure the dealer knows you do not want holes drilled in your bumper when you agree to buy the car.in fact they would probably install what ever bracket or gizmo you get to hold your plate to make the sale.

Not going with the NPP exhaust. Only the options mentioned as I plan on putting in a full system from the headers back. I am looking to keep cats and mufflers to keep the entire system road legal.

There is only a few new 2018 SS within 500km and they are all 3.99% APR which is to much. I am also really looking forward to the 10speed. However, if they 18's dropped in APR I would be very interested.

I think the leather seats with the red bits look very sharp. Its a long term plan on finding a wrecked SS locally and buying the seats off the wrecker. Do you know if I would be able to hook up the heating and cooling options with some wiring?

Ofer at Gen5DIY could answer your questions on swapping the seats. He is a vendor and info source on mods to Gen5 and 6 gen Camaros. Hope this helps you!

I've been using this for a while, and it works very-very well: https://bigmikesperformanceparts.com...1ss-2ss-sns89/. Discreet, easy to remove and reinstall with no tools, mounts in the center and thus doesn't break symmetry even when installed.

I'd try to check the seats in the 1SS, they may already have the hardware (fan and heater elements) and even the wiring harness. I don't think GM makes different seats for the lower trims.

The problem is you won't be able to use physical buttons under the infotainment screen to activate the seat heater and cooler ('cause they will be missing). The hardware won't integrate with MyLink's auto cooled/heated seats on remote start feature either. However, if you're okay with separate switches attached to the seat or in the center console storage cabinet, you will probably find a workaround. I for one wouldn't hack up the interior for this, but I understand why you want it.

All good points I havent considered. Thank you. When I do eventually find leather ones I may just do the swap and for go the heated and cooled options.

Thanks

Thanks for the welcome, not looking at the 1LE but thanks for the thought. Already negotiated on the 1SS I am pulling the trigger on!

If you get a 1SS you can't just swap in leather seats and hook them up and expect to get heating/cooling. You'd have to hard wire a switch somewhere. Doesn't seem worth it to me. If you want those options just get a 2SS. It costs a whole lot more to make a 1SS into a 2SS than to just buy one in the first place.
