Now that C7 is done, will we get the LT5 hand me down

Now that GM has announced the end of the C7 as the C8 is coming, it looks like the Corvette ZR1 will be a one year car (2019).

Do you think our Camaro may get the LT5 when the Corvette no longer needs it?

That would require considerable expense not only making it fit, but altering the drivetrain, transmissions and suspensions for starters to account for the difference in power and weight. Allot of $$ I would think for a very limited production vehicle. But who knows?

Nope. At least not in the current generation.

There are lots of speculation on this one, but probably the general consensus is "no". It's still LT5 was for only a couple model years, and it doesn't have too much considered to be exotic, minus the dual-fuel system, IMO. A lot of the rest of the hardware carry-over from LT4 (what, blower, bearings, cam, higher strength forged crank, mostly). It's probably no too prohibitive to migrate into Camaro, but I kinda' doubt it. There was that prototype seen running around with the CF brakes, like C5 Z/28. But it seems to be pretty quiet on the streets and around the 'Ring lately...

I'm not sure it would be that prohibitive. GM can (and does) use TM to keep from beating on the driveline too much. It didn't seem to be too big a deal to modify LSA from CTS-V to ZL1 last generation, and that's a lot of what it would seem LT5 might need (i.e. blower lid). Yes - there's the whole fuel system and software to drive it. But 650 horse' doesn't overwhelm Alpha chassis, so I'm not yet convinced LT5 is too much to get to work. In the world of Redeyes and the $$$ they command, I bet GM could get LT5 to work if they really wanted.

It would be a nice send of the 6th with an LT5 option, so that the price would only go up to those who wanted it. Time will tell I guess

I would be absolutely shocked to see Chevy go to the trouble to put the LT5 in the 6th Gen ZL1. And since there's been no evidence that a 7th gen Camaro is even in the works, it appears to me the LT5 will follow the same path as the LS9 -- a Corvette model specific engine only. I suspect the LT5 could be available as a crate engine at some point. But that will be the only way it ever gets into a Camaro.

The LT5 will fit in the ZL1, but there is no way that it will go into the Camaro in the 6th gen model. The C8 does not mean that the current C7 is done being produced.

FWIW, LT5 crate engine has been available for a few months now.

https://www.chevrolet.com/performanc...percharged-lt5

Suggested retail $21,328.00, I have seen some available as low as $17,915.52. LT5 controller kit and accessory drive system for about another $5K.

It was just announced this week that the C7 is done this summer.

I would be willing to wager it's a go on the next gen, then I'll decide if the new aesthetics justify trade in to jump into the the LT5, or then begin mods with this the A10 LT4 50th...it's a win/win either way but still say we are getting another hand me down at some point.

It’s been a crate engine for months now.
