Trouble with Waze/Android Auto
I'm having trouble with Waze and/or Android Auto. Last week, my Android got an automatic software upgrade. Now when I use Waze via the USB port, when the screen goes blank, I lose Waze on the Infotainment System. Not completely, but it does not update the screen properly, and it doesn't track my route correctly, bouncing all over.
I have changed the cable and reinstalled both Waze and Android Auto with no luck. Does anyone know of setting on either Waze, Android Auto or the phone itself that will fix this issue? Any help with this is appreciated. |

what phone are you using? I've had hit or miss luck with different phones. My s8+ worked flawlessly, both on the car, and using it as just phone mode. My oneplus 6t works great in the camaro, but is hit or miss when using the app by itself, phone-side.

It's a Galaxy S8. It worked well until Wednesday/Thursday last week.

The OS might have put that app or GPS to sleep in the background... Try switching to Google Maps on the infotainment to wake up the GPS then switch back to Waze. I had that happened to me one day... then it went away.

Mine is also not working well as of Saturday night. Traffic alerts/cops aren't showing up on the map right now on the infotainment nor the phone itself. I'm thinking there is an issue with the app right now. I have Samsung S9 with app updated to it's latest version on the app store.

This has helped me in the past when Waze acted weird after a software update...
On the phone, go to Settings --> Apps & Notifications --> App info --> Waze. Hit "Force Stop" button. Then, go into Storage and hit "Clear Cache". If that doesn't fix it, also hit "Clear Data" on the Storage screen. |

Do what dray says first if it doesn’t work uninstall the app then reinstall it. Phones are just like computers sometimes applications get messed up with a update so just uninstall and reinstall.

Thanks, I've tried that a couple of times already. I have to find a way to keep Waze from going into the background. I think I need to find a setting on the phone, something to suspend battery optimization when the phone is plugged in.

I think there is a reset on the vehicle infotainment system. Try that.

I also have an S8. I had a problem similar to yours, but it didn't "suddenly" appear. It was more of a gradual thing where it'd charge, but I wouldn't get a good connection. Swapped cables, no help. Reinstalled waze, nothing.
Finally, got a needle and cleaned out the charging port on the phone. Some lint and dust came out. Now, it works flawlessly. |

They also make those magnetic USB-C cables. I use them and they are really nice. Keeps the port from getting knocked loose and keeps it clean.
