1LE rotors
Hey everyone just found something out about the rotors for the 1LE. My brakes were squeaking under a light load so I called my dealership where my brother happens to be a GM tech. He told me on the brembo brakes that can be normal especially during weather change but then he also told me theway the rotors for the 1LE are $800 a piece! That's $3200 for new rotors shop he warned me to take care of them so notlet the cat sit for lloking periods of time. Anyone have any tips on how to keep the rotors from rusting??

Summit has AC Delco original hubs and rotors for 450.00 each. Im sure with some searching you could find the rotors without the hubs cheaper than that.

Yeah, the front rotors aren't cheap, but you can just buy the discs for a little less, and the rear rotors are the same as the SS so they are cheap.
If you want to keep them from rusting, drive the car. Store it in the garage when not in use, and keep the car dry. Before I'm even done washing the car the rotors have a touch of rust over the surface.

These things do squeak, I find it to be brake dust, the OE pads a very high dusters. When I wash I spray the wheels and the calipers down really good with my cleaner and then a heavy jet of water. This helps get that dust out. Too, the rotors will rust, that's normal, but the OE pads will freeze to the rotor when left wet more than any car I've had before.
Just getting out that a lot of this is normal, it's not a problem and could probably be mitigated with a pad change to something less aggressive than what seem to be full on race pads. |

Mine have never squeaked. Best thing to prevent rust is to get good pad material transfer by following the pad bedding in process. Also drive the car after a car wash and use a blower to make sure all water is off. If you do get some rust just drive it and get on the brakes a few times and the rust is gone.
Best place for new OEM SS 1LE rotors is RockAuto about $348 each (They were $330) ACDELCO # 1771193 and 1771194 (177-1193 Left and 177-1194 right) |

![]() Yeah, using your brakes from time to time and that will prevent rust buildup. You don't need to but all new rotors, just purchase the disc replacements which there are numerous write-ups on this and the aftermarket company's who make them. Brembo factory pads do make a lot of dust and noise from time to time when cold. If this bothers you then perhaps look into getting aftermarket ceramic pads - also there are tons of write-ups and debates on this, just use that handy search tab. |

The OEM rotors are very beefy and long lasting. Good for about 15 track days and dd in between. If somebody doesnt track their car they will last for a VERY long time. No need to baby them. At all! The OEM brakes are very robust including the Ferodo pads. They may squeal a bit at some temps and dust a bit, but then again all high performance pads do that. Ours don't even compare to other more aggressive pads in these categories. Don't be afraid to enjoy your car: many here beat up on them very hard and all components stand up to high performance duty very well indeed. PS Given the quoted prices, find another dealer to service your car )

It's normal. The 1LE basically has racing brakes and they are noisy and dusty. Embrace it! My buddies 4yo son asks why his brakes are noisy and he just grins and tells him because it's a "race car".

Rears are under $100 for OEM (177-1233, 84097953). Amazon, etc. have them.

Dealer retail pricing with labor is probably what he's quoting there
"Our rotors are neither "$800 a piece" nor "$3200" for a full set." |

Either way, that's a rip off. Dealer Labor Time of 3.0 hours for all four. Even at $100/hour Shop Rate, my math says that's not $3200. Even full Retail with Labor would be $2K for all four installed. List on the fronts are $712 plus tax, so, I get $800 Retail each quote. Rears are $143 each Retail.
