Improving 0-60 in street trim?
Hi folks
Mine is not a DD, and while I have a severe FEVER to start moding, I'm just not ready yet to void the warranty with under 3,000 miles on it. (Have to take it in shortly to address the A8 shudder I'm feeling). And in the end, it seems just raw HP is no good if I can't connect it effectively to the pavement. Bone stock these cars will just roast the tires with the TC off... So, has anyone done any suspension (or tire) mods, or other mods besides engine that improved their 0-60 times? I'm talking street trim please, but experience with mods that helped on the strip are helpful as well i suppose. Any one have experience with any of the BMR parts helping and if so which ones? Numbers AND opinions welcomed, with thanks in advance! I've only tried about 4 times, but 4.4 was best 0-60 I had thus far. 2018 SS A8. Happy cruising! PS - I'm assuming a suspension mod for example will not void the drive train warranty.... but I haven't checked with my dealer. Same for tires (eg width). Anyone know different? |

Well, 4.4s is amazingly fast, you aren't going to get much faster than that with street legal tires. If you get a really good launch in ideal weather conditions, you can hit 4.1 or 4.2. There is no suspension mod that will make your tires hook up any better when you are at the limits of the rubber. Of course the tires will spin with TC off, 400 lb/ft will do that. The only real way to improve that is to get stickier and wider rear tires. Just remember that those will also be heavier, if you want to stay street legal.
If you really want to change the feel of the car and get better acceleration, you should think reduction of rotating mass and that means lighter wheels. The OEM 20" rims are heavy, around 30 pounds. Changing to 19" rims, even in the 24-25lb range, would get you a much quicker feel in acceleration. Throw on the stickiest street legal rubber you can and that is basically the limit. |

My 2016 cut a 1.777 60 foot time at the drag strip. I don't think the OEM tires are really that bad on the street. I tried several times to do record shattering 0-60 mph runs and don't recall there being tons of wheel spin. Of course it depends on what type of street pavement we're talking about. It the factory claims 4.0 to 60, it should be capable of that on the street. Are you talking about normal tire pressure or maybe a little lower?

That's in part what lead me think to ask this question... whether the tires maybe could bite better if the suspension maybe was moded. Someone on here summed it up concisely as "spinning ain't winning". |

When we first saw video of the new traction control system, it seemed the computer managed the traction perfectly for a very fast 60 ft. I haven't heard of anyone duplicating that and as a matter of fact, most of the 5th and 6th gen Camaro drag racers I've encountered at the drag strip turn the traction control off. I'm sure that's a good tactic for those with drag radials since they will definitely hook with the A8. I'm in the hunt for a set of wheels and drag radials that will work for my first trip to the track. I still have 1,100 miles left on break-in...lol.

Find a down hill road to make the runs on lol jk.
Work on your launch man, I went from mid 5's when I got the car to 4.4 for my best, with launch control, and average 4.5/4.6 consistently just rolling off of idle or a low rpm clutch slip. Even using launch control (at least on a manual) there's some room for improvement on the technique. On an auto I expect a 4.0-4.3 to be fairly achievable if you dial in your technique and drive mode. Try in sport mode and will all nannies off mode. Then try those again but with touring suspension setting.
