My 2001 z28 vs my 2016 v6. No, they feel pretty much the same accelerating, only the v6 is far more nimble and efficient.

Granted, my v6 has not ever been technically stock since I bought it over 3 years ago. But I doubt the mods have done much.

Nobody who I've heard of driving the 6th gen v6 and has had a 4th gen has ever been disappointed. The same can't be said about the turbo 4, but usually for various reasons unrelated to strict performance

I'll pass on the 4 cyl unless it's in a Cruze that averages 30 mpg. Back in 99 my bone stock 98 TA A4 went 13.2 @ 105 mph all day long. It dyno'd at 290 rwhp. I had it in the mid to low 12's with a converter, bolt ons and DR's. I had a friend with a 2002 SS that ran high 12's stock except for DR's.

Most people aren't disappointed because the car is a much better car overall than a 4th gen. I went from a 8 second @ 154 mph turbo 4th gen SS to a stock 6th gen SS and wasn't disappointed and actually like the 6th gen way more.

Anyone who thinks a stock 6th gen 6 cylinder is as fast as a stock LS1 4th gen is misinformed. Stock LS1s have gone 12s.

absolute bests for a manual would hit the high 12s. Most timed in the low to mid 13s.

Your sample size for v6's can probably be counted on a couple hands. But they'll be in the mid 13's. Will any stock hope to get into 12's? probably not. But 12's aren't the average for the ls1 so it's kind of pointless to compare the average from one car to the best of another. For all intents and purposes, they're about matched acceleration wise.

I was comparing best for both since that is what they are capable of doing and since multiple LS1s, not just a handful, have gone 12s stock and V6s haven't it is safe to say LS1 is/was the faster car.

Seems like there's large variances in the LS1's times. The ones I've seen were always in that 13.3-13.6 at 103-106 mph range bone stock

Not to hijack the thread, but FWIW I raced, tuned and built LS engines since they came out. I never saw a bone stock LS1 run a sub 13 on street tires. Very, very few bone stock LS2s ran sub 13s. Not doubting you, but that was my experience over nearly 20 years.

I understand but it was accomplished by a bunch of people, myself included and I am not a great driver. I also have been building and racing LS1s for 20 years, I sold an 8 second LS1 car to buy my 6th gen. Here is a Mustang magazine running 12s with a stock one.

There is always a few hero runs on any car. 99% of the LS1 f-bodies would run 13.5-14.2. I raced many at beech bend for many years. The ones I saw run 12's had tire, gear, lid at the very least.

I have no doubt a gear/tune/tire 6th gen V6 would knock on 12's. Mine bone stock with 1000 miles ran 13.8@104 spinning with a lazy start and the factory horrible slipping trans tune. Yes, they are very comparable to a 4th gen LS1 car. The 4th gens just respond better to mods as it's not hampered by todays technology.

13.5-14.2 is definitely on the very slow side for an LS1, the magazine article I posted which is a Mustang magazine ran 12s and magazine drivers can't drive for shit. Hell I can't drive for shit and got a 12 out of my stock WS6 but whatever you V6 guys need to tell yourself. The argument is getting old when I know what I have done and many many others have done as well.

I know there are some serious LS1 lovers here, but come on guys. LS1Tech is still alive and kicking ya know. The 15+year members with 100k posts will tell you high 12's was the VERY best and fastest stock times recorded. Most averaged mid-low 13's.

I'm one of those members. Been racing LS1s for 20 years. Anyway doesn't matter, opinions are just opinions.

I don't think its considered "opinion" when I'm the only one in this thread proving I actually own both cars the OP deals with.
