In late 2004 I was looking to order the new S197 2005 Mustang. I wanted a "low maintenance" color that looked good even when dirty. I initially ordered a silver car. A week or two after putting in the order, I found one on a lot and hated the color when I saw it in person. So I had to scramble and figure out what to change it to. I drove to a dealership that had a variety of colors on the lot. It had recently snowed and the cars were partially covered with melting snow, and most had never been cleaned after coming off the truck. So it was easy to tell which colors hid the dirt well and which did not.

The yellow was one of the best at hiding dirt and I decided on that. When I asked the salesman to change to yellow, he resisted, saying I might not be happy with it. "It's not stealthy" is one thing he said. And then he said something like "it's like being out drinking and it looks great while you're out, but when you see it in the morning, you ask 'what did I do?'"

But I stuck with the yellow, had that car for 10 years, and never ever regretted the choice. The car was still getting compliments from strangers 10 years later on how good it looked.

Good luck with yours.
It stresses me a bit because I know it will be a police magnet. That’s why I was ok with a grey one but because I am a transformers fan... I couldn’t resist

I think your driving style may be more of a factor than your color choice.

Reminds me of a line on Married... With Children, Ed Bundy answering his wife when she asked if her dress makes her look fat. 'It's not the DRESS that makes you look fat Peg, it's the FAT that makes you look fat.'

Gees, I feel your excitement and after buying more than 75 cars in my lifetime (about half of them new), it never changes. There's something about a new car that simply turns a car guy nuts! I know...I'm waiting to pick up my 3rd Gen6 Camaro after a bad driver totaled my HBM 1le in a rear end collision doing 40mph and me sitting still at a stop light.

Enjoy your new car and don't worry about the police... just save your speeding for the track.

Thanks guys!

Now, how do I protect the paint? Highways in Ontario are pretty dirty and all trucks throw sand and rocks for some reason...

I asked the dealer not to clean the exterior, they have a brush system car wash. I do have a pressure washer, soap and everything, I am already washing my Mazda at home.

But how can I add a layer of "something" to even protect the paint more?

Thanks again!

My Red 1LT V6 didn't get me in any trouble with the cops. In my ice metallic blue 2SS I did get pulled over for doing 70 in a 55 but only got a warning. Honestly its seeming throughout more and more in the country these modern days it's getting harder and harder to get pulled over. May just be my experience but there seems to be alot less highway patrol out there than I remember.

I would look into getting a clear bra for the front end at least. Ceramic coatings are excellent but they won't protect against nick's and scratches.

Wash, dry, clay bar(obviously with a good detail spray, not on dry paint), polish, prep for ceramic coating, use the ceramic coating.

Or xpel paint protection film.

So basically a "premium package" from a very well rated detailing shop, and then I can maintain it myself with a normal wash once a week or two, right?

Actually. Clay bar, Wash and Wax is easy. You can do it yourself. Dont pay someone $200 for that.

For the xpel or ceramic coat, you will need a professional. Actually...I would just go for xpel
