PDR, SD card and laptops

Looking to buy a laptop for data logging after my mods and a thought occurred to me. Do I need a SD card reader? I figured I would use the SD slot to look at my PDR recordings. What would I see? I assume it would be the same thing I see on the screen in the car? I dunno. I’ve never checked it!

Opinions?

Yeah it puts each recording into an mpeg file if I remember. You should be able to pop the SD card into the computer and just open and watch the videos. They show the overlays too just like in the car. Its very cool. My PDR in my 1LE showed when I got rearended. The douche claimed I brake checked him. But the PDR with the overlay that showed both brake and throttle position clearly showed me completely stopped (normally I might add), before the BAM of his ass hitting me. Showed the cop at the site, and he got the ticket and a big talking to from the cop about lying.

You need a FAT 32 Formatted SD card.

It only runs when you turn it on in the menu.

You don't need a laptop with a built in SD reader, you can get one cheaply from Amazon.

This is my setup in the link above.

If you are asking if it automatically starts up, No.

But, once you start recording, it will continue until you stop it or until it runs out of space on the SD card.

SO you're using an external card reader that you plug into a USB port?

Besides just the video with overlay it also records all the data logs that can be viewed through the Cosworth toolbox software

Which one are you guys buying. I am not sure I need the pro or extreme pro but if it is truly "better" I would buy it.

Thoughts? Is 128 to much? etc. I am really not into this tech stuff.

Any of those will work but, I'd go with the Ultra Plus for $39. Make sure the SD card is formatted as FAT32. It will probably come out of the box as NTFS or exFAT, which the PDR will not recognize. As an example a 64GB card gives you 1540 minutes!

Thanks I googled up fat32 formated sd Best Buy that is what came up. So I guess I don’t need the 128 but for the $40.00 seems like a no brainer.

Thanks for your help.

I believe there is upper limit on size of card that will work, I seem to recall trying a 64gb and it did not recognize it.

64GB SD cards also has to be formatted in FAT32 because out of the box it will be exFAT or NTFS. 32GB and below SD cards will work right out of the box. 128GB is the max size the PDR will read as long as it's been formatted as FAT32, (Some reports of certain 256GB cards have be said to work). Also keep in mind that even though you have a large storage the max file size the PDR will write to continuously is 4GB in round numbers. The reason for that is the Operating System the PDR is running is only capable of writing a max file size of approx 4GB because it's a 32bit OS.
