Replacing broken lock pin in ignition coil harness?

Okay, how screwed am I?

I managed to break off one of the red locking pins in the plug that connects an ignition coil to the wiring harness. These are the (apparently very fragile) plastic pins that need to be pulled up before you can pull the connector off the ignition coil. I pulled up on the pin head, except it broke off instead of just popping up!

Luckily, the connector is stuck ON the ignition coil so the car still runs fine. I'm hoping a tiny screwdriver will let me remove the remains of the pin that is keeping the connector locked, but I'd like to get this fixed. Any idea if the red pin itself can be replaced without needing a whole new connector? Or if a whole new connector is needed, is there a way to change it out without requiring a new wiring harness?

They are just a "fail safe". Not needed. Don't sweat it. I broke 2 of mine. No problems. Getting the red piece out was kind of a pain. Small screwdriver and tweezers iirc is what I used

Thanks for the info! I'm mainly concerned with the connectors working themselves loose without the lock pins, but if others are not having issues then that's good!

I broke one of mine about 15 months ago, I went 12 months without any issue. Forgot about it until I installed the 2-step, will probably forget about it again until I have to take it off for something else.

Same thing here, I have a two step and just ended up putting some electrical tape around the broken one.

I even broke one off the 2 step side. Those things are way too brittle. But as long as they don't get stuck to where they won't release, it's not a big deal

Mine is stuck in a position where it's preventing removal of the connector. I don't have a pressing need to remove the coil pack at the moment, luckily, but I plan on trying to get the last bit of red plastic out of there sometime in case I do need to remove it in the future.

It might help to unbolt the coil and hold it upside down. Might make the red piece easier to grab and fish out

I broke off the back rear one, aka the one thats a pain in the ass. It wouldnt release as well. In the end i had to break the black clip on it to pull it out. Luckily i was installing a 2 step and when i plugged the broken one in the dummy coil of the 2step i just wrapped it with electrical tape. No problem yet atleast
